No animal which has been hit should be just left to suffer. To me it would be help towards closure. I think it should be mandatory to chip your pets too.

Yes they should report it or take the cat to the nearest vets instead of just leaving it in the road or by the road side

Having seen one of my own pet cats run down at an early age I understand how hurtful losing a pet can be. The fact I was able to tell my family immediately what had happened made things a lot easier for us cope with the loss. The idea of not knowing what happened and leaving the family without closure seems incredibly cruel in my eyes

Deffo all for this, cats don't deserve to be hit by cars and nothing done poor things people love them just as much as dogs x

I agree that it is wrong to knock down a cat, killing it. It is a family pet, most of the time, and a great loss if not reported.

I live in Bride and a lot of the traffic speeds through here, including some of the residents. I had the heart breaking task of picking up a large tabby boy cat with a terrible head injury, sadly he had been killed and this was right outside the playground and nursery.

I strongly think this should be law after a much loved cat was run over by a car that wouldn't even slow down after I was frantically trying to flag her to slow down. My cat died in my arms.

This must happen as too many of us have lost our beloved cats and the driver didn't even stop. Heartbreaking.

Cats are as much a part of someone's family as a dog. They deserve the same amount of respect and responsibility in the unfortunate case that an accident happens, that would be given to a dog. This law needs to change.

My 3 year and a half old ginger and white cat was found dying in Arbory Road Castletown, 5 weeks ago. A very kind lady took Kitty to the vet where she was already dead. All we know is that kitty died from blunt force trauma to the head, consistent with having been hit by a car. My wife described the loss of Kitty as equal to the loss she felt when her mother passed away and I second that.
We would never have known what had happened to Kitty if it wasn’t for the very kind lady living in Abory road and Kitty’s microchip.

I totally agree. I lost my beloved cat last year and although he was micro-chipped so I knew he was gone, I will never know what happened to him....devastating.
