Cats should be afforded the same rights as dogs. They are peoples pets and part of their families.

I can't believe this still isn't illegal. I saw my beautiful cat hit and run by a car this morning and then held her in my arms as she died. The woman was driving so fast and didn't even break but there is no way she didn't know she had hit something. Heartbreaking!

If my cats were knocked down and killed, I would want to know who did it.

Cats are as much of a family member as dogs, there is no significant reason as to why they shouldn't be protected.

Wookie was beautiful. Our gorgeous ginger cat, Paddy, has been missing for three weeks now. It is important for people to slow down, in both our towns and the countryside. A child, an elderly person, a horse&rider, a cat or a dog could be in the road. The faster the speed, the faster your reaction time has to be! Cats should be protected by this act; I am signing immediately!

Volume 1 report and annex. 70. We are pleased to note that the road traffic legislation (amendment) bill 2016, if passed, will amend the definition of an animal in the road traffic act 1985 to include a cat and hope for a positive outcome so that accidents involving cats will, in the future, will be reportable.

I couldn't agree more. My beautiful cat, Lucy, has been missing since October. She is chipped, but for all I know she could be lying dead or dying somewhere have been run over and left - ignored. When I came across a dead cat on the road, years ago, I took it to a vet so see if it was scanned. At least then the owners would have some closure. Please don't just leave injured cats/dead cats where they are. We all have souls.
