gather the 40% of Rates that are owed. Leave the up to date rate payers alone.

Lots of businesses in Ennis have closed over the last few years and one of the main reasons is because the commerical rates in Ennis are very, very high. I can't believe that the council just voted to increase them. That's crazy!

The Number of Closed Businesses and Dead Shopfronts across Ennis, is a sign of how far Ennis has fallen from its Glory Days, since Winning the Information Age Town over 20 Years Ago. Much has been invested by the Council in keeping the Visual Appearance of the Town "up" to the point that Visitors often think the town is much busier than it actually is. But walk all around Ennis as the evenings Darken into Winter and the 'Broken teeth' of Closed Shopfronts become ever more Noticeable. The Assumption that 2 Years of the 'Fleadh' will enable the Remaining Businesses to pay Higher Rates from Day One sounds Plausible, but as it will most likely only benefit Pubs & Food, it is a Flawed Logic. There is an old Maxim of Taxation that if "You want less of Something then Tax it, but if you want more of Something, then stop Taxing it". Clearly Overall our Clare Councillors and County Officials, whose Salaries are being paid with Borrowed Money from our yet UnBorn Children, mostly have decided that it's better to have even less Business and Retail Jobs in Ennis Town in the future. Those Brave Businesses who have currently hung on trying to survive through the last 8 Miserable EU Imposed Austerity Years, in the hope of some eventual Relief have now got their Reward, in the form of Higher Rates. It's a really great message to send to anyone thinking of opening a New Business in Ennis, isn't it ?

If they lowered the rates by 11% there would be more businesses bringing in more money. Totally wrong decision!
