Fortunately, sudden death is not as commonly observed in pain patients as in past years most likely due to better access to at least some treatment. Sudden death still occurs, however, and practitioners need to know how to spot an “at-risk” patient. Unexpected, sudden death due to severe pain is poorly appreciated, since many observers still view severe pain as a harmless nuisance rather than a potential physiologic calamity. In many cases, just prior to death, the patient informs their family that they feel more ill than usual and seek relief in their bed or on their couch. Unfortunately, some of these patients don’t awaken. Other patients die, without warning, in their sleep or are found collapsed on the floor. Modern medicine’s aggressive toxicology and forensic procedures after death have contributed to the poor understanding of pain’s death threat. In some cases, a pain patient that was being treated appropriately with an opioid or other agent with overdose or abuse potential has suddenly and unexpectedly died. Drugs were found in body fluids after death, and in my opinion a coroner wrongly declared the death to be an “accidental overdose” or “toxic reaction” to drugs rather than implicate the real culprit, which may have been an “out-of-control” pain flare. This article is partially intended to call attention to the fact that the mere finding of abusable drugs at autopsy doesn’t necessarily mean that the drugs caused the death. I have chronic pain that keeps me from even enjoying life. Sitting in a chair is my everyday existence. Something has to change. No one should have to suffer all the time.

What you are doing will cause an increase of overdoses from illegal drugs , increased suicides and make people suffer. asking for euthenasia to be legal. so sad folks that use their meds correctly and that's the only way they have quality of life will suffer. the alternative therapies are very expensive and not covered by insurance are are not being offered they are just giving ultimatums you will get off your meds. so very sad. animals have more rights than people with chronic pain. being disabled from accident injury the stigma is bad enough, now you want to force me to be a hermit and invalid. start covering the massage, accupuncture, and get us on road to recovery before you pull meds see if other treatments work first. what you are doing is so very wrong. we are not the criminals. stop treating us like we are we are humans in pain getting no other affordable help except meds. so very wrong.

I have had fibromyalgia for approximately 25 or 26 years. And quite likely more years than that. Most of those years I had no pain medicine and then I was very under medicated for many more years. I have had good care now for the last 8-10 years. I also have chronic body wide myofacial pain syndrome and another rare chronic pain syndrome called dercums disease. The trajectory of my life was changed in a negative way. With all of the people I love being affected. People who do not have chronic pain can not fully appreciate how really awful it is to live the way I do and all people with chronic pain. I can’t imagine having my medicine arbitrarily taken away. I am not on Medicaid but what I see is people who have less money being punished and for what?? I see poor people being punished because they are poor and no other reason. Lila D Varney

I have had bad Migraines since I was 3. I not only get Migraines but I also get Hemiplegic Migraines and because I go numb down my left side I can’t have the typical migraine medication. Pain medication is the only relief I have when attacks start.

Legislation in Oregon should be ashamed of their efforts to discard the residents of pain. Planned obsolescence of the elderly , disabled & sick. What happens when the policymakers need pain medications in their own homes for their own families ?

Doctors need to get involved to save their profession. Patients need find out who the inhumane and uncivilized decision makers are and which ones must not get future votes. We the people....need to be filing complaints against medical facilities.

I do therapy for a living and feel sorry for the chronic pain individuals whom need their medications to survive and thrive otherwise they are painful and increased depression, decreased appetite and poorer health

Denying a patient necessary medication is choosing to kill that patient. And we are being killed en masse. This new holocaust must stop and those responsible for these ongoing mass deaths must be brought to justice.

I along with so many others am a chronic pain patient who has severe fibromyalgia, arthritis, bursitis and multiple back issues back problems. I have suffered with fibromyalgia since 1981 and have tried so many options for relief as follows: several surgeries, hours upon hours of PT, epidural injections, selective nerve root blocks, facet joint medial branch injections, radiofrequency ablation, acupuncture, biofeedback, pain pump trial and spinal cord stimulator implant. None of these have helped my pain. My relief comes from Oxycodone. I hope my comments will help you in your decision of the proposed changes you are considering.

Stop the hysteria, Stop violating American's Human rights to quality medical care. This is nothing short of legal torture and making your constituents collateral damage in a skewed and misguided epidemic. The data is wrong, the numbers are wrong and innocent people are dying.
