Stop South African Education from becoming less Global

It's a no brainer. China is a strong force in international trade and policies. The University would move itself paces behind universities that offer Chinese if it cancelled its Chinese program. The world is moving forward, Stellenbosch University should NOT lag behind.

With South Africa and China being strategic investment partners it makes sense that our academic institutions support language and knowledge development. Key to partnership growth surely starts with being able to understand each other.

We deserve Chinese!

South Africa has joined the BRICS agreement, therefore opportunity to those who can speak Mandarin in South Africa can benefit from the increase in trade etc as a result when entering the workplace. not many institutions offer this language in their courses, therefore it should be kept on the basis that there is a need for students to study mandarin in order for the organisation behind south Africa and China in their integrated system to be maintained.

It's not fair for those who learn Chinese in stellenbosch

Current students in this program deserve to, at least, finish the program before it is taken away - if that is the only option. However, to say that a program is redundant only due to lack of funding sounds like an excuse to save money. Other avenues should be explored before reverting to such an extreme.

I believe that Chinese has to be in this institution as it is vital for this country to go forward!

Chinese for the future. The Chinese language is not only beneficial for the university of stellenbosch because it attributes to the diversity factor. But Chinese is also beneficial in the sense that it helps develop and grow the south African economy as we have allies with China. How can allies with international countries grow if the resources to learn these language's are not available

Many of us need Chinese for our future careers especially those interested in becoming translators, diplomats etc. Many students chose Stellenbosch University, because of its Chinese Deparment. If it were to be removed, the credibility of our degrees may come into question and may affect our future.

Students should have the right to follow their interests especially those involving foreign language, this is a skill that should be promoted as international communication is a necessity.

Monolingualism is the illiteracy of our future

突然取消中文课对我的朋友来说十分不公平，关系到她的学业和学位，而且我能感受到她很认真的在学习。希望能保留中文系。It's not fair to cancel the Chinese classes ,my friend may not get her degree properly .And I can see that how hard she learn this language and how much she pay for her studies .
