Currently, the ability to interact with the Chinese is a prerequisite for development, not just in South Africa, but in Africa. The ability to engage in dialogue is a prerequisite for trade and development.

I support this case as it is hugely unfair to students who have already invested time and money into this course and have structured their immediate plans for the future around it. Many would have made different decisions had they known the course might be discontinued. The least the institution could do is allow those are studying to finish the requirement of their courses and then discontinue for those incoming who have not yet started with the language

Chinese as a language and learning Chinese can only be beneficial for future Stellenbosch students. Chinese is a truly global language as it has the most speakers globally!

I strongly encourage that the Chinese department of the university stays well funded. The opportunity in the East is only growing for westerners.

Stellenbosch's Mandarin department is a credit to the university. Closing the Chinese section will not only hurt its students but the institution's credibility and good name.
