I am signing this petition in aid of my sister completing her studies and achieving her dream of a successful future. I believe that it is selfish that her course has to be sacrificed in order to fulfil the future economic margin of Stellenbosch university and in hope of satisfying rallying students !

I studied Chinese for 2 years at Stellies. They care about teaching so, so much and it's really great for global awareness and getting acquainted with different cultures - something SA NEEDS.

We live in a globalising world and cannot afford to not study other languages and cultures - we should broaden the options foreign language education in South Africa, not take them away

Inexplicable to do this. What on earth will students who want to major in this language do?

Chinese is fundamental to students who would live to work and study abroad, dont take away the chance for south africans to better their lives.

Studying Mandarin (Chinese) at Stellenbosch University not only allowed me to broaden my mind to another culture but it also completely changed my working career. Had I not studied Mandarin I would not have had the chance to travel twice to China and I would not have had the job opportunities I have had a result of studying this language.
