Proposed Rules and Actions for the "Astronomy Observation Field" area of Cherry Springs Dark Sky Park

Public education on these issues is the key. Most people don't know how to set up their vehicles so they are dark sky friendly. A hand out on suggestions would help.

Please preserve the darkness of this unique and special park so that everyone interested in astronomy can access a truly dark sky.

We encourage communities here and around the world to preserve and protect dark sites of exceptional nighttime beauty, dark skies education, and preservation of the nighttime environment. With the sole purpose to combat light pollution and keep the stars bright!

Overall the recommendations look fine. The only issue I see is with the cooking of meals. The electric use is limited to scopes and yet people are not allow to cook over flames. This severely limits the ability to prepare food. At least there should be a designated cooking area for "open flames"

The night sky and the Milky Way should be considered a natural wonder and national treasure in the same way as the Grand Canyon! Thus, the night skies deserve to be protected as well.

This park is so widely known as one of, if not the best dark sky spot east of the Mississippi. Lets keep it that way.

Cherry Springs State park is a very important Astronomy related destination, one of the very few with these capabilities and resources in the eastern US.

This is an excellent dark sky park to show our kids and grandkids what dark skies mean, showing the milky way to "wow" them and would be a shame to lose this facility for our future deep sky imaging... please keep it dark sky friendly...not many left!

Please help preserve this special place for its intended purpose, astronomy. There are lots of places to camp, but very few that really offer good stargazing.

Having experienced first hand, the type of problems described in this petition, I am glad to sign it. Hopefully this action will ensure that this valuable resource will be available for generations to come.

I too use this site for deep sky imaging- What's the point of a dark sky site if it is NOT DARK. bad enough I'm forced to pay taxes so they can install light polluting fixtures for street lighting. It is such a pleasure to have such a great place to see the night sky.

I have been going to Cherry Springs for the past 6 years three to four times a year, it would ba a very sad day if we lose the great place

Dark skies are unique to the NE and this park. Don't loose them.

This is the only place in the northeast that has this kind of environment (Dark Skies)! It should be kept that way. If the other people don't get the idea of it and don't go the program, then why bother coming to PA. I'll stay home. $$$

Protect the night!

I made my first trip to Cherry Springs this year. It was amazing. After having one partially cloudy night of viewing affected by people ignoring dark sky park rules and etiquette, I believe that these rules are necessary.

Please enforce whatever rules are necessary for maintaining Dark Sky status for Cherry Springs.
