PhDs should be employees. It is a protection for them and it defines cleary their roles and duties with the University

EU funding for PhD students *requires* a contract and that the student is treated as an employee, because these are seen as ideals for early-career researchers, so why is NL trying to go from being a world leader in the treatment of its young researchers, to the bottom of the pack?

Argumenten voor beide zijden van de discussie mogen wat aangescherpt worden. Maar een advies van de Raad van State is niet iets wat je naast je neer legt en vooral zaken als sociale verzekeringen, pensioen en ouderschapsverlof zijn belangrijk, met name om het percentage vrouwen in de academische wereld te stimuleren en de druk op het gezinsleven van academici te verminderen. Omdat de tijd dringt teken ik in eerste instantie om de discussie meer tijd te gunnen.

Nederland heeft een goede reputatie hoog te houden in de kwaliteit van de wetenschap en de kwaliteit van de behandeling van promovendi. Ga alsjeblieft niet Amerika achterno!
