Honestly, GET SELENIKAS OUT. I was a student of LICHS 2016-2020. After graduating, I decided to go to college for Secondary Education for Social studies. I was driven, not by how much I enjoyed learning in LICHS, but from how terrible my experience was. LICHS has no structure, teachers have no will due to the iron fist. After taking my courses in college I feel as if my eyes were opened. In LICHS, teachers openly said that they dont care what the hell you do as long as those grades on your paper were passing because it keeps them in this school. Not a single teacher in my experience, other than Ms.Washington Ms.Rude Ms.Balthazar, actually made learning fun for students. Teachers need better higher ups, so they can have room to incorporate new strategies that makes students feel like they want to sit in class and enjoy learning. They need more room to incorporate the students culture in recreational activities to keep them off the streets and at least keep them in the building. They dont need a squad of security guards roaming the hallways and making this school feel like a prison because then nobody wants to be there. They dont need bag checks, swipe in and outs, metal detectors, if you actually do things to show this is a safe space and not a dystopian land where all things go. The therapy/counseling office shouldnt be a wait list because a lot of us went unheard. Selenikas was and still is terrible at managing a school, and her fear towards people of color shows through her passive aggressive actions. When you allow children to express themselves creatively in a school you will get amazing results, but when youre in Rikers Islan- i mean LICHS consider your joy for education going down the drain.
