VIVIAN SELENIKAS MUST RESIGN AS PRINCIPAL

As a student of Long Island city high school, it is truly disgusting to see how teachers of color are being treated by a white principal, our principal is not engaged in our community. She does not understand anything about us, and she is openly racist. we are trying to bring as much awareness to the situation as possible because she has been doing this for 10 years. She has been abusing her power for far too long and it is not acceptable. I did not know who our principal was until this year and I am a senior who has been here since my freshman year. Please help us to find our community a principal who will try to understand us being engaged with us and even if they’re different try and find a way to connect with us. but it is not Vivian Selenikas

While we use this platform to express our need to see the principal replaced by someone more effective, please be mindful that we don’t want to see harm done to anyone. So, please be cognizant of the messages left in the comments section of the petition. And to my fellow colleagues who continue to work with our students of color, know that YOU made a commitment to serve our students at LIC. You weren’t forced to be here by any means and have an option to transfer to another school with a different population of students. To “protest in silence” or ignore the fact that a change is needed, is not only saddening but speak volumes to your willingness to perpetuate the discriminatory practices and deplorable conditions you experience on a daily basis. We’ve made some headways as a community school, but there is so much more that is needed to take LIC to the next level and our current principal is highly ineffective at being able to do so. So, while you remain silent about the ongoing issues, know that our students of color, who are already disadvantaged in a myriad of ways in comparison to students in more affluent neighborhoods, will continue to be negatively impacted and further disadvantaged in their journey of becoming productive citizens in society. I have known Ms. Bloomfield for quite some time. She is patient and steady-A true gem. Her students need her. The school needs her. The racist principal must go!

Honestly, this is so sad to hear because I’ve know Ms.Bloomfield since freshman and I used to give her a hard time lol. But she always gave me a second chance or a pass grade because she knew I had potential and she’s a kind person. This is so sad and disgusting to hear about happen to her.
