The Marblehead Harbormaster wants to put moorings in the back of Salem Harbor by Wyman Cove. People have been using this body of water for recreation for decades. This is important open water where people wake board, tube, SUP, water ski and sail. This is water where kids regularly swim and play. But this will not be possible or safe if the Harbormaster continues to keep and put moorings in this area.

It is important to note that there are a significant number of unused moorings within the existing mooring field. It would seem that the moorings in the back of Salem Harbor could be moved 100 yards into the existing mooring field. No one needs to lose their mooring.

Boats moored outside the current mooring field bottom out at low tides putting bottom paint and micro plastics into the resource area - a shellfish suitable area according to the Department of Environmental Protection. In addition, this area is designated as a Special Aquatic Site by the Department of Marine Fisheries.

In addition, these moorings produce chain scour that release heavy metals from the mud into the water in this area.

Please sign this petition if you are against this expansion of the current Salem mooring field into the back of Salem Harbor.

Let's keep this cove a natural place for people and birds of all kinds. Many more get to enjoy it just the way it is, versus making space for a few extra boats.

Let's look for new solutions- this body of water should remain usable and safe for recreation!

I grew up on this Cove. 30 years ago it wasn’t nearly as healthy. The herons, osprey and other birds have returned because it is a clean healthy space for them to live. Let’s keep it that way.

Please keep the moorings out of the cove so we can all swim, paddle & kayak there safely

Please consider environmental impact on putting more and more boats close to conservation land where there are many birds like ducks, geese, cormorants and loons. There are also many types of fish and fauna in this area.

Wyman Cove has a long, strong history of community involvement of use and significant upkeep to the shoreline area. Having moorings encroaching on the widely used active water use area would destroy this precious community resource.

If Marblehead serious about combatting w change, send the correct message and no more moorings. Power boats contribute to pollution in the water and in the air, and putting money ahead of the environment, when we know about the risk, is not ok.

No need for moorings in that area. Please stay away from this natural resource area.
