EQUITY= PEOPLE HAVING WHAT THEY NEED TO BE EQUALLY SUCCESSFUL AS EVERYONE ELSE. THE SPECIALIZED ART PROGRAM I AM IN DOES THAT FOR ME AND EVERYONE ELSE IN IT. CUTTING IT AND PROGRAMS LIKE IT WILL NOT SOLVE ANYTHING

As someone who went to Claude Watson School for the Arts and now attends Earl Haig for the Claude Watson arts program, this proposal sickens me. My entire life revolves around the arts, and I don't know what I would do if I no longer had the ability to go to an arts school. Students who attend specialized programs sacrifice so much time and energy to be where they are. They work so hard to get in and stay in these programs, and their dedication proves how important programs like Claude Watson are. Taking away specialized programs will only add to the existing list of problems within the TDSB. We can't move backwards, we can't end specialized programs.

So stupid. The TDSB loves to "fix" problems that don't exist. No one asked for this. If students are in a specialized program, it's because they're not learning enough in regular programs. Dropping them only means these students will be bored in class and not learn to their fullest extent. These programs exist for a reason, and removing them is a huge step backwards. I hope the TDSB reconsiders this, and reconsiders who they have in charge of deciding what else needs "fixing".

As a former teacher at Claude Watson, I saw first hand the extraordinary value of an arts education program. For so many kids , Claude provided a sense of having finally found a place they belonged. Please don't kill this program

Art school saved me and countless others, and gave me a voice in a time when I would not otherwise have had one. Had I gone to a regular local high school, I would not be the person I am today. Do NOT rob future students of the chance to find themselves in a special program.

The act of phasing out specialized programs is entirely counterintuitive towards the topic of equity, as students that wish to push themselves further creatively or through academicsshould not be penalized. It is important to note that schools with an audition process or an enterance examination are not always entirely fair, but this is absolutely not the way to address the issue. From my personal experience, specialized programs have always been a place of learning and growing past boundaries that may be set by other school systems, and the removal of them is simply stripping away this opportunity from so many incredible sudents that thrive in these communities.

These programs are the only opportunities for talent kids in average income family (which could not afford the good private school) to get the right education could satisfy their needs.

The special programs encourage kids and teachers to make better efforts in improving their learning and teaching. I don’t see any bad effects of that! Please keep them!

Art’s schools promote and encourage creativity and passion in society. Getting rid of them would negatively impact the future generations and would diminish the joys and potential careers the arts has to offer.

As a student that is currently in grade 9, I would like to say that I don’t want my final years in school to be stripped from the things that make school itself fun and enjoyable. Without these programs drop out rates will be higher, as well as depression and anxiety along with it. Is that really what is wanted? For student across Toronto to stop enjoying the school experience completely? To look back on the memories and shudder in disgust rather than smile and say ‘those were some fun times’ to their old school friends over a cup of coffee. This is unbelievable. I think I speak for all students when I say I like my school the way it is and I won’t stand for this.

These programs give kids with talent and passion and drive something to strive for. Don’t eliminate wonderful programs and water down opportunities as resources are spread so thin they hardly make a difference for anyone. Add programming! Don’t take away programming! You’ll never achieve the utopian equality by eliminating what’s good. If it’s working do more. Your conclusions are backward.
