These programs create opportunities for students to explore, create and discover new things while enhancing skills used in the working world. They also provide a judge free place for students to discover who they are and gain confidence.

My specialized school saved my life and taught me in ways no ordinary school could have. Kids need these schools for their well being, lets not take a step backwards.

Why on earth would you take away that opportunity from students across Toronto? While I understand the need to help those who are struggling, the need to help some individuals shine whom may be unable to have this opportunity elsewhere.
Just because some students need to be elevated does not mean that it has to come at the cost of the Claude Watson program. It shouldn’t be a zero sum.
Don’t hold these kids back.

Equitable access to specialized programming is a laudable goal. Expanding specialized programming is the way to achieve this. I know that financing this programming is challenging, but it is a matter of priorities and making tough choices.
I work in healthcare, an industry that struggles with equity issues. Our solutions are not perfect and can be costly, but I can’t imagine anyone suggesting the elimination of services because they can’t be equally accessed across a city or a province.

Do not agree with canceling all specialized programs, should keep these programs for students who need them.

These programs are imparitive to the yonge generation. It helps keep a well rounded society as well as the mental health of these yonge artist!

I would never encourage this step of TDSB.The quality of the program would suffee drastically since the local schools cannot provide this kind of infrastructure.

Enriched programs of every kind are a really special aspect of the TDSB. Phasing out specialized schools would be harmful to students whose talents do not fall in line with the regular curriculum. Equity is about acknowledging and integrating difference, not imposing sameness. Students need to be able to find a mirror for themselves in what they do at school. I switched to an arts school in grade three, travelling almost 30km on the subway alone each morning. It didn't matter, I loved to draw. I have benefited a lot from these programs and it is sad to see them under attack. The problem of social exclusion and lack of community involvement is very real, teachers know this. But to even suggest an end to specialized schools altogether in one blow is to ignore the many benefits that they provide to students with different talents, not to mention the years of teachers' work that have gone into these programs.

It is true that everyone needs access to quality opportunities in their local school. This can be done by focusing more on the importance of the arts and other areas that engage kids and keep them wanting to come to school. Taking away the specialized schools will just close doors for a different group of kids

Wow after all there hard work and years and money put into these specialized programs now you decide your going to cancel it I’m not even in a specilzed program and I think it was a bad idea smh
