If a program who's goal is to empower, strengthen, and further develop a love for something so sureal is taken away from the students, you are killing many dreams. The arts cannot be neglected because for some kids it's all they have.

This is probably the worst idea the TDSB has ever made. It's an attempt to create 'equality' by celebrating mediocrity. Part of life is learning and growing with like minded and like skilled people. Creating the illusion that everyone is equally skilled in all areas is a surefire way of creating a generation where no one is truly skilled, and is unprepared for the harsh realities of life.

The Claude Watson program has shaped who I am today; please don't phase out specialized programs. Equitable opportunities doesn't mean cutting programs that actually engage students in school and being involved in their communities.

The Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig S.S was where I could openly express my passion for my art. It was a program that taught me to embrace the differences between individuals. I am positive that other similar programs are the same in the experiences that they provide for students who have worked to get into those programs. Specialized program most definitely should not be removed from TDSB schools!

I was at Bloor CI for TOPS and this program has helped me a lot in many ways. I got to take so much out of it and I'm in university first year at the university of Toronto studying civil engineering. This is no joke and being in the TOPS program has definitely helped me cope with first year 100%

The Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig SS has been an integral part in putting me in the path of an arts career. I am now a university student at NSCAD university. I would not be here had it not been for this arts program in my high school education. As an immigrant to Canada, this education was an integral part in my transition to this country and in being able to get the kind of specialized education I needed to succeed and exel.

Taking away the rights of students in specialized programs doesn't give more rights to those who don't have access to them.

As an IB student I am firmly against this TDSB "equity" policy! This is not equity. Equity is giving everyone what they need and what would be best for them to reach their individual goals; on the other hand, over-equality would hinder productivity and motivation, as everyone gets the same thing. This will hurt economic growth in the long run. Also, for those who claim that this policy will decrease stress and competition: everyone had the chance to apply for these programs, and it was our own choice to join a specialized program and embrace the stress of challenges that come with it. Putting everyone in the same courses wouldn't be good for applied or lower performing students either, as they would be even more intimidated by their peers (who would otherwise have gone to these programs). Also, IB helps people apply to universities abroad; I don't think some UK universities accept normal Ontario marks, for example. We should not

Claude Watson is the reason I found my passion for the arts. Enriched classes were how I fostered my interest and what led me to pursue a career as a writer and academic at the University of Toronto. Getting rid of programs that inspire, enrich and support students would deny thousands of the opportunity to learn, grow and become happy and well-rounded individuals.

Claude Watson was a school that helped make my childhood magical. It presented opportunities that I would never would have had access to. To lose such an influential place would be a tragedy.

As an alumni of Claude Watson, I would not be a Canadian entrepreneur if I didn't attend this program. We need these programs to fuel economic innovation and entrepreneurship (especially in STEM). Canada has had a MFP (Multi-factor productivity) level of 0 for the past several years. How can you shut down these programs when these institutions shape the future for Canada's economy!

My arts education at Claude Watson was invaluable and life changing. It’s a unique program that every kid should have the opportunity to experience. There are so few schools that focus on the arts as it is, and fewer still that are the caliber of the Claude Watson program. Please don’t deprive future generations of that opportunity.
