Published Writer, Sterling Heights, MI. These kinds of monuments should be preserved. All regions have a right to their history. There is a great danger in trying to hide ourselves or the mass public from history. There still needs to be some form of state control on this issue.

We need to respect the rights of others, I say rights, not that it need not make someone uncomfortable, it is to honor those that gave up their lives for their beliefs, and keep in mind they were people of all race that fought in that war. We honor veterans

I agree, if we erase the past we are only going to repeat it again in the future.

this country is deteriorating, and for anyone to incinuate that the civil was confederate flag is racist they them selves must be racist; to assume that a symbol such as the confederate flag is rediculous. Since the emancipation proclamation we have done far more than enough to accomodate people that choose to stay here and not leave although they were "so abused and hurt". After that no one has physically kept them here so we are NOT as a united states government going to cut a glorius piece of history from our view because it offends someone because a nut job that commited mass murder used its symbol. The sheer attempt to remove the flag of my ancestors, my ancestors part in history books and monuments from parks IS EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE, so who will accomodate my wants? The flags and other monuments erected to honor confederate AND/OR yankee comitments and their beliefs should NEVER be assulted or taken down. Basically this guy was a mass murderer and like other criminals he AND ALL OTHER MURDERERS should be put to death, and if THIS MURDERER is going to be put to death then all others that came before him must have the same treatment.

how dare people believe that taking down a piece of civil war will help ANY cause, if anything it will enrage the people that back the confederacy and encourage them to stand up against idiots like the ones that would butcher our history.

If we started erasing our history based on peoples preferences then we would have nothing left to learn from. Just because one person used an image in a hateful act against ANY COLOR,RELIGION, OR IDEAOLOGY does not mean we will change our history to accomodate his extreamist views that lead to the depreciation of the lives lost during such a conflict... Imagine you lost your grandfather or great grandfather to the civil war.. During the time he was so proud to fight for what he believed in and that was technically freedom and everyone has the right to fight for freedom and that flag is a representation of his blood that was spilled. If you hate the ideals of our history and what they stood for, LEAVE THIS COUNTRY AND COMPLAIN ABOUT A DIFFERENT COUNTRY ELSEWHERE. :)

it does no good to try and re write history by removing flags and monuments. Please stop these witch hunts and band aid measures tom make some feel good for a moment instead of looking at real underlying issues.

God Bless the CSA. I am proud of my Southern Heritage and do not want to live anywhere but the South. I am appalled at our Southern Governors, Senators, Representatives and local leaders for the lack of backbone shown regarding removal of the battle flag, monuments, etc. However we all know 2016 is an election year, gotta get those votes.
The Confederate Flag should fly and the Monuments remain. We cannot erase history to suit a group that might be offended.

The memorial is dedicated to the veterans who fought to defend their rights as they saw their rights being violated at that time in history.
Leave history alone and quit caving to all the crybabies that want everything their way.
