The confederacy represents a part of our history and people should learn about it. Unfortunately there are groups of people who have a political agenda to erase and rewrite American history .

Enough Cultural Marxist Hate in the name of virtue. After the Confederate monuments...what's next?. The Founders. After the Founders, then who?. Anyone of European descent. After them, then who?. It won't stop. This type of anarchy never does.

Removing monuments does not change history but merely erases our awareness of it. Such a tragedy is a danger to any democracy.

This is my heritage. History is filled with good, bad, and everything in between. Statues are part of that. and they are also just stone and metal. We give them meaning and that is not static. Stop trying to naively reduce that 'meaning' to one narrative. We share narratives. Consider: What's the meaning of the US flag, the meaning of the pyramids, the meaning of the great wall of china? any one thing? Or think of it this way: A monument/memorial is a statue is a symbol is a piece of art is a piece of culture, fundamentally. There is more than one meaning or interpretation for each of these. ....also, since when did art become scary? Plenty of art is deemed offensive. Plenty of art in public government/local state funded spaces is offensive. Learn tolerance and chalk it up to bad taste if you disapprove.

With the exception of the paragraph about the Confederate Battle Flag, I am in complete agreement with this statement. KEEP THE STATUE and the historical marker where they are!!!

This is AMERICAN HISTORY. It had NOTHING to do with slavery. It had everything to do with protecting the southern states, and way of life, from northern aggression and freedom from taxation and industrialization. The men, women, and children who lost all DESERVE recognition and reverence for their sacrifices as they are, in fact, VETERANS. Removal of the historic monuments is a slap to the face of everybody and their descendants- myself included!

Confederate Soldiers,Sailors and Marines that fought in the Civil War were made U.S Veterans by an act of Congress in 1957, U.S public law 85-425.sec 410 , approved 23 may 1958.
This made ALL CONFEDERATE Army,Navy, Marines equal to U.S veterans Additionally by the !7th Congress on 26 Feb 1929, the War Department was directed to erect headstones and recognize confederate grave site as U.S war grave sites. Just sayin......

I am a Gulf War Veteran and to take down this monument and any other monument that honors the fallen is disrespectful. A lot of men were forced to fight and died.

These people are American soldiers. They deserve to be honored as much as any other soldier that fought and died for this country.

If in fact you are correct and you are not. Then we should get rid of the Buffalo Soldiers monument also, would you agree on that. Of course you will not because you are very likely a Socialist Democrat and probably would not know the difference anyway. I have ancestor that fought on both side of that war, one side from Winston County, AL and the other from GA. But that was then and this is now. The black Socialist Democrats just want to rewrite history. This is the same path taken by Lenin and some of those other famous people. You and the other Socialist Democrats, especially the NCCAP, ACLU, SPLC, and locally this guy Shanklin need to get into the present and realize you are living now and get the hate out of your hearts.
