When did American tradition become secondary in the lives of free men and women? In California, a century old tradition known as Presidents Day, also known as George Washington's Birthday, has been dealt an unacceptable blow and devalued as a day of reverence and virtue. Originally established in 1885 as a day of remembrance, George Washington's Birthday is an established federal holiday, revered by the government, political leaders, and other establishments across the nation...except California, where Cal State universities will not stand by the Founding Father and other leaders of the free world. Make no mistake, that without these great men, without George Washington, there would likely be no United States, no California, and no civil rights movement leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez, both of whom reserve a day of remembrance for their incredible lifes and the impact they had upon the American people. Why then is it allowable for a policy to be implemented that would seek to devalue and deprioritize a day that should otherwise be respected by all Americans and any who would seek citizenship and freedom within our borders? I would ask that any citizen or individual that can see the issue with this unpatriotic policy, to stand up for a man, and men, who have held the office of President of the United States. Ones who have guided a great nation, lead the world through war and hostility, spread freedom and hope to millions and continue to make the world a great place. Do your part as a Patriot and as an American! My goal is to reach 300 signatures before I pursue further actions, such as presenting the petition to local media and contacting senators and congressmen, so please help to push this petition out to the public! Every person matters and together we can change this policy and take back our America!! If you wish to contact me directly please leave a note in the comment section and I'll happily reply! Thank all of you for everything!

February 15, 2016

The university leadership continues to ignore our input but we are preparing a formal letter to the administration office. Email your campus representatives today and demand that they reinstate the holiday on the academic calendar.

The momentum behind this effort is undeniable and shows that our community refuses to let this tradition vanish. Send the petition link to your campus contacts and demand that the administration restores respect for our national history immediately.

The Cal State System has gotten far too liberal over the years. We must honor our past Presidents by continuing to observe; or in this case, reinstate observation of, President's Day. CSUSB 1994 Alumni

George Washington was one of the most remarkable men who ever lived and instrumental to the founding of the Republic. There are plenty of holidays with less significance that could be dropped to make room to celebrate the Father of Our Country.

High time! When the days were combined, it was the end of school kids spending the day learning about the greatness and significance if either of these two incredible men.

ALL schools in American should be observing this day; since when is our history not important anymore?

Presidents Day reflects on historical leaders that stood up for us Americans. We must show recognition and gratitude for the struggles they had and risks they took.
