Preserve the Certificate in Meeting Management Program

As a professional working within an industry requiring certification and accreditation, the proposed changes to the CMM are unacceptable. The changes dilute the value of the credential, and insults the professionals who worked to attain the designation by meeting the historic criteria. Further, “grandfathering” another credential into a CMM is absurd. Credentials are not given, they are earned.

Take back the CMM!

Those earning the CMM designation supported the MPI organization with their time and financial resources to achieve this status. We also took MPI at its word that this was an elite designation with challenging criteria that would remain the most prestigious achievement in our industry. It's astonishing that MPI would disregard their constituents so completely with these changes. Please listen to your top achievers and make the modifications requested in our petition.

I am blow away by MPIs total disregard for the work of the current CMMs. This seems to be one of those issues that it so basic, and so easy to resolve that I find it mind blowing that so many hours have been waisted on it. If they want to do away with the current program, fine. If they want to replace it with something else, fine - but call it something else. What MPI is doing is a slap in the face to the nearly 1,000 professionals that currently hold the CMM.

MPI has lost their position as a leader for developing and managing new skills and higher education opportunities for their members. The professional development programs have been reduced to serve the lowest common denominator and function only as another revenue stream.

CMM - a designation we are PROUD to hold and MPI has now de-valued this our eyes and in the eyes of the whole profession. Please MI. Please bring back our confidence in MPI by doing the right thing. The CMM designation was hard earned and held in high regards in our professions. We earned it. It should not be diluted but be held strong by MPI!

We worked really hard to obtain this designation. It is absurd to think that making these changes is acceptable.

Keep the program integrity.

Maintain th CMM reputation with its previous standards.

My congratulations letter from MPI in 2000 reads: "Attaining the CMM is indeed an accomplishment within the meetings and events industry that sets you apart in your experience, knowledge, leadership and abilities. Please retain the "Certification in Meeting Management" designation and support these four modifications.

Designations should not be about quantity but quality. It seems the new CMM is more about getting a large number of people with the CMM designation rather than having the high standards it has now.

change and growth is always good but not when it effects so many that have work hard to get their credentials

Too many certifications become minimal requirements, so they take our time and energy, yet the stringency is relaxed and they don't offer the value they used to. Let's not let that happen to the CMM!

Companies and highly-qualified individuals have spent a lot of time and money on this certification--don't let it happen!!!

Why would MPI want to dumb this down?

I heartily agree with all in this petition.

CMM stands for the years of experience and hard work of its members. To change it in this way lessens the program and the hard work, money, and pride that members put into obtaining it.

We worked hard for this, please keep the credibility high!
