Preserve Pawnee Prairie as Horse & Hiking Trails

No changes other than to add camping spots and pens to stay overnight

Don't destroy this beautiful park for more pointless cap this area doesn't need!

Safety needs to be first priority. Horse owners and trail riders have been diligent in preserving these spaces set aside for their sport. Please consider all angles of this issue, primarily the inherent risk of accidents and injury.

Bikes and horses do not mix, no matter what. Cyclists have so many opportunities and equestrians do not. Horse's will shy, major liability.

A "run in"? You're being very nice, I say we were verbally assaulted. When my 9 year old daughter asks "Mom, why was that man yelling at us?" then there is a huge problem! I can't believe he is representing the city of Wichita with such obvious anger management issues!

There are plenty of spaces for bikes leave this alone

I feel like the cyclists have bike paths all over wichita from the north to the south. Cyclists riding in Pawnee Prairie create a risk to horse riders.

I had a run in with the man putting up the new ideas. He shamed me and my friends for riding there and it was appaling. Said he would turn us into the cops. And for what? Not having our dogs on the leash. How rude!

Just leave it the way it is for horses and hikers. There is a lot of other places to go ride your bike.

Please keep this park for horses only! There are plenty of places for bikes.

Great place to ride horses close to city.

KEEP THE PAWNEE PRAIRIE PARK as is for the Horse riders. Keep ALL bicycles out period no changes

Your petition does not deal with the latest proposal that will be to segregate the park entirely and leave the dirt trails for horses only, gravel for hikers only and concrete for bicycles only. I suspect a construction company is behind this so there will be a big juicy contract to bid on. ANYWAY, what about just cleaning up the park, particularly the creek. That is what they should be doing. The creek is FILTHY! We walk our dogs out there on the dirt trails because 1. its shaded and none of the dog parks are (one of our dogs had heat stroke walking in the dog park) 2. its easy on the knees and back for those with problems (some people cannot tolerate walking on concrete or gravel very well) 3. its a secluded and natural environment that their going to ruin, and already have, by bulldozing down trees and putting in man-made trails 4. you can see all sorts of wildlife that otherwise would be spooked away by the sound of your footsteps on gravel going scrunch scrunch as you take a step. Lets not forget that K9 Search and Rescue and the Civil Air Patrol use the park for SAR training. There is not another such park that one can go to do such training. Its just not the same to look up over a 100 yards of manicured grass and see your next objective when doing orientation and navigation training and know where you need to go versus trying to look through dense foliage. And where was the giant red placard indicating that the city wanted to develop this area? As a contractor if I want to develop someplace I have to post these unsightly giant placards indicating that there is going to be a hearing. You talk about spooking the horses, what about the joggers running through the area? Do they not spook the horses too?

HEARING TOMORROW at city hall!!!! The concerns here need to be adjusted to meet the latest posting from the City which calls for segregated trails for horses on dirt, hikers on gravel and bikers on concrete. Their totally missing the point of the trails. See below: "District 4 Council Person Jeff Blubaugh will be presenting a rough draft of the Pawnee Prairie Park Master Plan to the Park Board this coming Monday at 3pm at City Hall. He is seeking approval of the plan so it can be finalized. The plan includes a compromise of unpaved trails for horse use only, chipped limestone hiking trail for pedestrian use only and a 10' wide, concrete, multi-use path for bicycles and pedestrian use only. There are also locations identified for bridges, information kiosks, prairie grass restoration and a playground. Space for off-road bicycle-only trails are not identified in the legend but sketched in on the plan. If you are a concerned citizen please attend this meeting. We will have volunteers providing security for parked bikes (so that you can leave your bags & tools on your bike). Even if you do not live within the district of the park your opinion is valid since the park belongs to all residents of Wichita."

Common sense tells me horses and bikes won't do well on a horse trail.

I live out of the area but my daughter lives in Clearwater and rides her horses the frequently. We here in Fl know the value of keeping horse and bike riders to separate areas. Since we have weather all year round that is nice. You only have a very few places that horse riders feel safe but you have many many places fore bike riders. PPP is for horses especially when you have trails that the line of site is low. Even if you say bike riders are allowed on certain trail once they are allowed into the park it will just be a battle to keep them out if the areas they are not allowed into. If you want a bridge over to the bike park from a certain neighborhood then think about that but don't allow bikers the run of the park when they already have so many places to go. Besides shouldn't money be spent on the schools and other areas than to redo this park so bikers can use it. What a waste of tax payers dollars.

Bikes and horses cannot share the same trails!!!!
