Both of my children are taking Chinese in Peninsula High School. I sincerely hope that the district will continue the strong Chinese foreign language program.

This year marks my fourth studying under Ms. Wang. Although I believe her intentions are good, spreading her over 7 class levels at 2 locations every day is having a clear negative effect on her. She complains to us about it on occasion, but her organization and teaching makes it very clear to her students that she simply cannot handle it. As a result of this scheduling she cannot help individual students, and the responsibility of learning Chinese falls on the students. We have no lesson plan, inconsistent scheduling, tests that are not on the material we learned, and no way to communicate our cone cern's with her. We are not learning the key parts of the language, and if we get any other teacher we are in BIG trouble because in any other teacher's eyes we are still Chinese 1 level. I am an honors student. To have to start over with another language would be devastating to my chances of getting into college. This program is the reason I will not be recommending PV High to my sibling. We need change. I know that interest and enrollment in Chinese is dropping, but I believe this is because of the reputation of the teacher and the program, not the subject matter. Please, help save the program that is most in need on campus. We are all bought in, 100%. We need a teacher and administrators that are the same.

I grew up in a home where the only languages spoken were English and Spanish. Taking Chinese was a big leap for me. When I started taking the class at PVIS in 6th grade, I was ridiculed and mocked by Ms. Wang for struggling in her class and told to leave. No one deserves this treatment, especially when he/she is just trying to learn how to speak an important language. I think it is a great idea to reevaluate some decisions made about the Chinese program. However, please do not do it at the expense of us, the students. I have learned so much from these textbooks and met so many new people. Please do not cut the program because it is by far the most important one in the district.

This is the third year I've had Ms. Wang as a teacher. It became pretty clear to me very early that I had to learn this language all by myself or help from my Nai Nai. The class is very too heavy meaning those that already know some Chinese get better and better grades and those that don't have the same level early get worse and worse grades. However she does absolutely nothing to help. There's not even a clear lesson plan. Almost everyone in our class is even unaware of what chapter we're on. If we try to discuss it with her, asking if she can help or go a little bit slower for those that don't understand, she simply retorts that we are in an AP class and if we "can't handle" the work then we should switch out. I have three sisters and sadly one of them has her this year (she is a freshman). I don't want her to have to put up with Ms. Wang for as long as I have and I don't want my other sisters to have to deal with her at all. Thank you for your time and understanding. I hope that I am heard.

Ms. Ong is a very good teacher and she really helps me learn Chinese. She brings real scenarios into the class which makes it fun and educational plus me and my friends all enjoy learning from Ms. Ong.

My name is Alex Guo, and i am a sophmore at Palos Verdes High School. I had Mrs. Ong in the sixth grade and she was absolutely wonderful with the class. She was organized, extremely nice, and super interactive with the students. She is amazing and i would love to enroll in a chinese class with her teaching it!

Biggest mistake! Please keep the Chinese class around. Alice Ong is a skillful teacher. She deserves to be hired full time!
