Preserve Big Wood Lake

Devil's Lake Assn. and I do not want this change affecting any of our lakes, the shorelines, property values, roads, etc.

I am a resident of Burnett county. We are experiencing the same threat on Devils Lake. As a lake property owner I have a long list of concerns and fears for habitat, lake health and my fellow home owners safety and investment protection. Doubling or tripling the lake population by allowing these R.V. Parks can only end in devastation for current human and wildlife residents.

I visit the North Woods every summer, as have my Wisconsin-raised mother and grandmother before me, and my children. I am concerned about the precedent this development sets for all lakes in Burnett County. We abide by the strict development limits imposed on our property to maintain the integrity of this precious area. The rules that permit an RV park development like this run roughshod over the intent of maintaining the natural beauty of this area and should not be allowed.

Odd how the minimum lot size for a home on the lake is significantly less than what the total for the transient use by RVs etc. is. Apparently they are all going to use their on board holding tanks and dump their waste at a waste site at their homes instead of using a waste dump on the site of this parking facility.

We have a resort, started in the 1930's, on our lake that orginally had only five summer cabins. The resort has less than 400' of lake frontage. Recent owners have "pushed the envelope" to have 55 park model RV sites when it originally had 45 campsites for tents and small vacation trailers. Some of these rigs have permanent sheds and decks. They are not temporary vacation trailers. There are more people squashed into the resort land than there are taxpaying residents on the entire rest of the lake. This has put pressure on our lake with over-use and most problems come from the resort/RV people. These individuals have no loyalty to the lake or the lake's health, nor do these "campers" pay taxes to Burnett County. Some even claim the campground as their permanent address, while still not paying taxes. If the lake should develop a problem, such as an milfoil, these RV people would simply pull-up stakes and leave. The RV campground is not a plus to our lake; it has a negative impact. I am sure that it has not helped our property values. I also find it interesting that the minimum lot size for a cabin is 150' and yet, this resort which has less than 400', is allowed to have 55 RV homesites and 5 rental cabins. There seems to be a definite inequity in concern by Burnett County for our lake's usage. Valli Sauer

I live on a small lake and cannot imagine how any sort of development would affect it--and not in a positive way! I don't think it selfish to preserve such resources.

I would hate to see this on my lake or any lakes in Burnett County.

We need to continue our opposition at the Wood River Township Level because of its very weak leadership! The county is requiring an environmental assessment but that is not enough. Please register to vote if you live in Burnett County and especially if you live in Wood River Township.

I am opposed to the impact of a campground and RV park on Big Wood Lake.

Please keep the pristine areas pristine. We lose so much of our beautiful state to developments.

I have a cabin on Big Sand Lake on hwy 70. There used to be a large campground (Wagners on 70) that had every issue you have addressed and more. It was approved for about 80 sites but got as large as 140. The marina was huge and larger than DNR lmts. If this should be approved there would be very little oversight by the county (unless things have changed). I was unable to attend public hearing and would have had a great number of concerns to express based upon actual issues. You will see a doubling of number of people on lake/at campground on many weekends (above the stated numbers) due to additional friends and family being invited to the "lake". Where will all the sewage go. Their will be more garbage in the lake and wildlife will be disturbed and chased. The "visitors" to the campground have no vested interest in the lake and many treat it as such. How big will the marina be based upon DNR specifications but how many more watercraft will be moored on busy weekends? This would be a for profit business and what else would change over time.

I’m an atty that helped lake owner with dispute with this developer. I own cabin in GR Mn. We have similar issues with developers that want to saturate lake and land near lake with these projects that destroy the primitive and semi primitive areas of the lake and land, and destroy the ecology of the lake—forever. I’m using aerials of several RV Parks in Wisc to show our Town Board the effects of this encampments. Pretty convincing evidence why they should not be allowed.

Big Wood is such a beautiful quiet place to fish and think. Please don't over populate this lake

Frequent visitor of family cabin on North Shore Drive.

My grandpa owns our cabin where he taught me how to fish. This would be very devastating to the fish population and the surrounding environment. I would hate to see this happen to our family lake.

Think about the impact on the lake, ecosystem, wildlife, and pollution rates. Have some respect for our planet

If these people put this in, all the now people are going to fish off the lake and kill the lake, not to mention pollution!

My dad owns our family cabin on North Shore Drive - but as a future owner, I am very concerned about the strain on the lake and community.
