The leadership of Faith Church is considering hosting Tent City 4 (TC4) onsite from March 1 through May 31, 2014. We as a preschool parent community are uncomfortable with the proposal as it currently stands.

As parents and Christians we understand the church's desire to support TC4 however we strongly encourage the leadership to pursue alternative dates outside of the school year.

You are invited to join other preschool parents in signing this petition which will be presented to the Faith Church leadership. Please sign by noon, Thursday, February 6. Should you wish your signature to remain confidential, you may check the box to the right.

Blessings,

In light of events (drug arrests and an an arrest involving child rape), I implore you to look at alternative dates. Helping should never come before the safety of any children. There is no doubt in my mind that this effort has no business being anywhere near a playground. There is no "reasonable amount of safety" that could make me feel at ease. In my opinion, given events that have already taken place, it is "if" it's "when" something occurs. And only then will people realize this has no place around children.

I believe the Lord wants us to reach out and minister to those less fortunate. I would like to strongly encourage the church leadership to pursue alternative dates outside of the school year for this purpose.

I appreciate that the church is trying to help the community, but I do not approve of this occurring during the school year. It is not ok to put our children at risk to help others. I also understand that the majority of the tent residents are probably good people that are down on their luck, unfortunately it only takes one bad seed to put our children in jeopardy. One stray needle or pill left on or around the playground for a child to find could be disastrous.... my family is just not willing to take that risk. We selected In the Beginnings for our daughter because of it's safe, loving environment and wonderful staff, the church is putting them all at risk if they go forward with this.

Please change the location and/or timing of Tent City. We need to put the welfare of our children first. We have a small campus and the encampment will be within 100 feet of the preschool doors. These kids are too young to know to stay away from strangers, they will likely go with anyone. The teachers have no training in working in these situations, should something occur. I spent 8 years in criminal records. I would never advise placing any person with a criminal, drug or mental illness within easy access of small children. I will gladly volunteer my time and energy to find an alternate location. I pray that this is what God guides you to do.

As a father of a 4 year attending ITBP, please reconsider the timing of Tent City. Many members of my family have dedicated their lives to the Salvation Army and I understand the need to give people a chance. But I have also seen the other side and to place 2-5 year old children in this situation is reckless. Please consider the summer when school is out to do this. In the meantime, I'll be praying for you.

Today, the Pastor stood in front of us saying that the children's safety is top priority. However, allowing TC4 while ITBP is in session is NOT putting the welfare and safety of the children as top priority!! Please, do not host TC4 while the VERY young children are in session. 2-5 year olds do not need to be exposed to this in order to be good people or good Christians.

Please, reconsider decision. It is for good cause, but also make decision what is best for children. Same results can be achieved during summer break when children are not present at premise.
