If one TRULY believes that the life within the womb is a unique human being made in the image of God, there is no way that person could justify awarding "the highest honor an American Catholic can receive" to a person who so fervently promotes the "right" to violently take that life. The only explanation must be that Fr. Jenkins, who is a genuinely good and decent man, does not truly believe that the life within the womb is fully human, deserving of an inviolable right to life. If that is the position that Notre Dame as an institution is going to take, then it should be upfront about it and attempt to make that case both religiously and scientifically. Let's be intellectually honest about the claims that are inherently being made here by Fr. Jenkins when he chooses to honor people whom the Catholic Church believes are actively promoting murder.
