You have no idea how this effects the everyday Catholic. While we are told to go out and protest at abortion clinics, the most beloved of Catholic universities gives awards to Obama and Biden. Please stop it!! Practice what you preach to us.

Biden ignores Church teaching regarding abortion, siding, praises China in spite of their human rights violations and force abortions; failed our country by denying the Supreme Court nominee Constitutionalist Judge Robert Bork in the 80s who, along with Justice Anton Scalia, would have safeguards religious liberty and possibly would have overturned Roe v. Wade.

I am deeply disappointed about this decision by the University and Fr. Jenkins. Notre Dame wants our graduates to regard very publicly pro-choice Joe Biden as an ideal Catholic. God help Notre Dame. God help the innocents lost to abortion and all the lives torn apart by abortion. Please bless these graduates with true role models who emulate holiness and virtue. -Alumni and Parent

Thankfully, there are some young, strong, practicing Catholic students right now at ND who are respectfully demonstrating against Fr. Jenkins latest blasphemous actions as regards this Biden Latare scandal. Thankfully too, there are some academic departments at ND that are STILL vibrantly Catholic in terms of what they teach - most notably the Theology and Philosophy departments. Keep it up those who are the front lines!! In Christ, Stephen Fralish, BSCE, MSCE 1974, '84

ONCE AGAIN WE ARE DEBASING THE LAETARE MEDAL, "THE HIGHEST HONOR AN AMERICAN CATHOLIC CAN RECEIVE" TO SOMEBODY WHO NOT ONLY DOES NOT ESPOUSE MANY CATHOLIC TEACHINGS, BUT, INSTEAD, VIGOROUSLY OPPOSES THEM. "ILLUSTRATING THE IDEALS OF THE CHURCH" ? WHAT CHUCH IS THAT ? CERTAINLY NOT THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH ! DAVID A. MARTIN, "53, WHEN NOTRE DAME WAS STILL CATHOLIC !

I pray for Fr. Jenkins and Mr. Affleck in their insistance of secularism on the N.D campus. We are CATHOLIC.

It is disappointing to me that just after having taken my diploma back from my alma mater that had been returned due to the 2009 Obama Scandal, I hear of this news. May the Holy Spirit inspire those who lead Our Lady's University to see, as the early church did, that obedience to God is more important than obedience to men and status, Our Lady of Notre Dame... pray for us!

I suspect Fr. Jenkins's parents were old-school Democrats. What a shame that he is so intellectual blind as not to recognize that the party of Joe Biden is not the party of JFK.

SHAME THAT A CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY HONORS A MAN WHO DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE VALUES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH...WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO???

The Laetare Medal should be awarded to persons who have sacrificed on behalf of their Catholic Faith. The Little Sisters of the Poor have sacrificed their lives, while Mr .Biden has sacrificed nothing-least of all his political success. He no doubt has received comfort from his faith and is more than willing to play the Catholic card when it benefits him, but he has sacrificed NOTHING. The medal should be given to Catholics like the Little Sisters who challenge the rest of us Catholics to live better lives, while serving as models of courage rather than political expediency.

What a deception on Notre Dame's behalf to Catholics who are aghast at this decision! What is the reason for such scandal?

What is wrong with Fr Jenkins.? Certainly he is not being guided by the Holy Spirit in this decision. I'm very much offended by his lack of holyness and judgement.
