Maryland Ave NE: YES for Safety, NO for Road Diet.

In 2010, a traffic study of Maryland Ave was done by DDOT. The results from this study convinced a relatively small percentage of the community to vote for a plan to implement a "road diet" to reduce the number of lanes on Maryland Ave NE.
We are residents in the Maryland Avenue NE neighborhood who are concerned that the proposed changes are based on incomplete and outdated research. Additionally, very few people were involved with the decision to move forward with the plans, and we feel not enough focus was placed on cost, effectiveness, or negative impact to neighboring streets.
Our goal is to ensure as many residents in neighborhoods affected by the changes are aware of the plan and are given the opportunity to voice their opinions.
We all agree safety is a concern, however, we feel that the developers need to re-evaluate their traffic study to address current changes to the neighborhood affecting traffic flow and patterns.
