The Architectural Guidelines, Article II, section 2.5 states the following in part, "Basketball goals/ backboards require an application and must meet the following criteria: a. The backboard of the basketball goal is to be constructed of a white or clear fiberglass material. b. The post shall be permanently installed in the ground, made of metal and painted black, and located within the driveway area. c. The basketball goal is to be maintained in a consistent good condition. d. All basketball goals muse be freestanding and permanently installed. "Portable" basketball goals will not be permitted". We are members of Stonehouse Glen and we have signed below to change the basketball goal guidelines. Portable goals should be allowed, as we already have many that are grandfathered in and they have not decreased property values. Basketball goals provide a safe and healthy form of exercise and entertainment for our children, regardless of whether they are in ground or permanent. Our community does not provide any basketball courts for our kids to practice and play on, and permanent goals are not the preferred choice of many as kids will eventually outgrow them and they are expensive. Please revisit and change the guideline referenced above.

Why is this even an issue for the HOA? PORTABLE basketball goals are not structures, are not permanent, and do nothing to property values. Should our HOA in the habit of denying normal exercise and sports equipment when they can’t even properly maintain street lights?

My kids started showing interest in basketball, but with their age and the amount of time we plan to be in this home, we definitely do not plan to do a permanent hoop. We would love to be allowed to have a portable one to get our kids outside being active and doing something they enjoy!
