People opposed to the Port Elgin grade 7 and 8 students being relocated to SDSS

I do not support sending our grade 7 and 8 students to the high school. I realize this has been a solution in other communities but those schools were built and designed to accommodate k to 12 students. That is not the case in this situation. It is a quick fix that involves program/opportunity loss for both the incoming and current students at the high school. Also, it will not allow the 7/8s to safely integrate into the school.

I am a school.bus driver.. mom of 4 boys..grandmother to 8. I can't think of one positive thing this would do for any of the students..7/8's or high school. I've heard a few other ideas that would be a much better options. 1-6 in one school and 7-8 in the other..or portables.

I definitely don’t agree with the relocation of the grade7/8 students to the high school. Let our kids be kids and stop making them grow up so quickly. Maybe the government should cancel JK, stop making babies go to school! Help with daycare and let the 7/8 be in their iwn school

I do not support the relocation of the grade 7 and 8 students to SDSS. This is a band aid solution. The $2 million dollars needed to accommodate the Grade 7 and 8 students at SDSS could be better spent by investing in the elementary schools so that they can be used for many years to come, regardless of enrolment numbers. Furthermore, the planned renovation at SDSS will result in the loss of the art, drama and physics room, negatively affecting high school programming.

Add portables to the elementary schools and plan for a long term solution now rather than moving the students next year and creating the same problem at the high school in two years.

I absolutely do not accept the bandaid solution to move the grade 7&8 to the high school. My heart aches for those high schoolers. There was no consultation on this proposal and we have very smart minds that can come up with an alternative. This is not the first time we’ve had to look for other solutions. Remember when they were going to close G C Houston? We may need to have a middle school but in the meantime, don’t disrupt the lives of HUNDREDS OF KIDS! It is not just 7&8. It is also going to affect grade 9,10,11& 12 Patty Bowman

I do not support this move. Maybe the solution is to create a new middle school or expand an existing school. Or forgo other local project builds to prioritize a new school.

Bad Idea. Kids are just developing physically and mentally and to throw them older kids, not to mention intimidation. You have a huge properties use the space and a few more portables would make more sense

I find it alarming that the school board has neglected dealing with this issue till now. It’s been obvious that Saugeen Shores is growing and new people and families are making it their home, and nothing has been planned for. It’s time that the school board took responsibility And owned that they made a mistake by not preparing better. There are better solutions to what you are proposing, stop looking for the bandaid solution and put the well being of the kids first and do what’s right!
