People opposed to the Port Elgin grade 7 and 8 students being relocated to SDSS

Bad idea. Poor planning school board has had 5 years to sort this out knowing registrations were going to increase.

This is a terrible idea and would have to be undone when the high school is over populated in a few years

It would take away from them, the school team aspect. These are the years for them to show leadership roles to the juniors. They would never get this if with the high school kids.

I do not support this- my daughter will be 11 going into grade 7, and as much as they say that “they will be separate from the 9-12’s”, that is far too young to be even slightly exposed to some of the things that occur in and around the high school.

I am opposed to this move. This is not going to benefit either the grade 7 and 8's nor the high school students. Why cant they put portables at the elementary schools?

There are 3 grade schools in port Elgin, why is there a need to put them in high school before they need to be? What if these children are of a religious background and will no longer be taught religious beliefs because you take them to a non-religious school. Also, what does this mean for the teachers? Are they also going to relocated to ensure each student has equal time in a class room with the right teachers? Or will the class sizes be larger and less affective?

This is poor planning on the part of the board. One only needed to look at the numbers to realize the population would be increasing. A new school should have been in the works years ago. In the early 2000’s they closed schools that would have helped to accommodate these numbers (WE Thompson and Bruce Central). Moving grade 7&8 to the high school is a temporary solution as those elementary students will soon overpopulate the high school. As a taxpayer and parent I am very disturbed at how everyone was blindsided with this decision. You need to consider more than just immediate population numbers and dollars when making decisions that affect children’s lives.

I hate the idea! Let them be kids for as long as possible in a primary school surrounded by children. High school will make them grow up much too quickly. Build an addition to the public schools.

There has to be a better solution. The kids are not ready for the more mature atmosphere of high school.

I grew up using portables in elementary school and I turned out just fine along with all my other classmates. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

This move is a poorly thought-out solution with negative impacts on the high school drama, music and sports programs, all strengths at SDSS. Why make everybody lose by sacrificing these strengths? It's not just about fitting student bodies into buildings, it's about their overall education and well-being which will have long-term impacts to them and our community.

We moved to this area to escape the middle school system. This is worse.

Bruh why? You'd have to move them all back in a few years anyway. Besides there are 4 elementary schools in Saugeen Shores and only one highschool in the area. Kids from other towns already have to go to SDSS since Chesley was shut down. Not a smart move in both the short and long term.
