I confess I don't have much confidence in the weight of internet petitions, but this one is worthy speaking for, if even the hope is faint it could sway decision makers.
The last time FTC built a new pool was 1993, over 20 years ago. The town has grown significantly since then, and so have tax revenues. We desperately need another community center with a pool near the growing population. Naysayers may point to dwindling or stagnant public attendance counts at mid-city pools, and they would be wise to consider there is a significant portion of would-be pool swimmers now living 20-30 minutes away from the closest pool, travelling by motor vehicle. Is it any wonder they don’t frequent it as much for fun?
For young competitive swimmers, there are now two substantially sized youth teams with continually increasing club sizes. It is increasingly challenging for teams to find suitable times to swim and share the pool.
For the adults working in the region who would use a pool for routine fitness, it is often impractical or near impossible to spend time driving through mid-day traffic for a quick workout.
The demand is there. The location is right. It’s been 20 years.
Bring the Pool back please!!!

Build the leisure pool. I drove my kids to Windsor for years because it was quicker to get there than to drive north. I have lived in SE Fort Collins for over 25 years.

I attended the public comment meeting last year in which the aquatic features were the most-requested for the new rec center. It makes no sense to spend millions of dollars on a project which completely ignores public input and delivers an entirely different facility from what the people of Fort Collin want.

For what it is worth, I am the head swim coach of a local summer team in SE Fort Collins (Willow Springs). I am going on record as saying that if this pool is reinstated with lap lanes, I will coach a swim team at the facility. I will start the program, build the program and coach the team. I envision something not as large as FAST at EPIC but something similar to the year round teams at Miramont or Raintree. A swim team in SE Fort Collins will give the many kids in that area another outlet to stay out of trouble and take part in the life long sport of swimming. I have built the program that I am coaching now to over 50 kids who compete at a high level and have a blast doing so- I would do the same with the SE Fort Collins swim team. If the City is concerned the pool would not be used often, I can help put that concern to bed right now. What a great experience it would be for these kids to have a swim team in their area!

I'd love to see more aquatic facilities and recreational places to go swim. I love to swim and everything is always so crowded. More facilities would lessen the problem.

This would be a wonderful addition to the growing southern Fort Collins area. I hope that you will strongly consider this project and move forward with it.

Southeast Fort Collins needs to provide the same city benefits other areas have. There should be a swim lane area for exercise too.

It's a bit embarrassing that Fort Collins has no aquatic facility south of Prospect Road. I see so many communities with awesome recreational facilities, and Fort Collins has old, stuffy, not family friendly pools. It's time to improve things! The majority of the growth is on the southeast side of Fort Collins. It's time to build a facility where the families are.
