Dear Foxfield Family Races,

Many of us have come to know and enjoy Foxfield Family Race Day as an exciting experience. We were made aware that at the September 2013 race, one of the main attractions, the ponies and their trailer were covered with Confederate flag blankets. As civically-minded members of this community, we frown upon this divisive symbol being so boldly displayed at this family event. Certainly, the Confederate flag may represent a heritage that some may be proud of, but it is offensive to many people. These families should not be confronted by what they may perceive to be as a symbol of slavery. Given that perspective, it would be useful to eliminate that so everyone could feel welcome.

We ask that you prohibit Dixie Pony Rides from using Confederate blankets at this year's event to help make the environment inclusive for all of the Charlottesville community.
