This petition has been created to lobby the Australian Government to adopt a major shift in its Energy Policy to invest, promote and support renewable energy as the critical energy form for combating global warming.
Sign your name to express your support for these targets, articulated in the Greenpeace report, A Bright Future: 25% Renewable Energy
for Australia by 2020
A national legislated target for 25 per cent of electricity to come from renewable energy by 2020.
A national target for zero electricity growth by 2010, followed by annual average reductions reaching at least 1.5 per cent by 2020, and supporting measures to achieve it.
The global scientific consensus is that the adverse affects of the expulsion of billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere each year is warming the globe and creating the biggest social, environmental, economic, and political issue that we as a civilization have faced: Global Warming.
In the face of the overwhelming scientific consensus and despite the present environmental problems that can be directly associated to global warming: heatwaves in Europe, drought in Australia, loss of stream flow, for example in Australia
The feedback we have received from many of you highlights the urgent need for a cohesive national energy strategy. We are currently compiling your comments to better illustrate the widespread public demand for legislative action on renewable energy targets. Thank you for your continued engagement with this critical environmental issue.
June 4, 2007
The momentum behind this call for renewable energy reform has reached a significant turning point. It is encouraging to see this level of collective focus on a sustainable future for Australia.

Renewables are cheaper anyway. Why are we still subsidizing fossil fuels when the environment is collapsing?

Coal is the past. We have enough sun in this country to power the whole world if we actually tried.
