The board needs to promote the concept of building a community not destroy it. This policy would be so damaging to 3 parties -- students teachers and the adminstrators. This policy would chill the flow of information and hurt education. If there is an issue with inappropriateness -- it should be dealt with individually not school wide.

Please don't preclude teachers from speaking with students on a personal level. A teacher may well be the only adult a young student trusts enough to confide in. The intention is good, but overreaching is not.

I can't trust a guidance counselor I see once or twice a year. Teachers know a student on a personal level, why take that away?

Making personal connections at Hersehy made me look forward to each day of school for another chance to learn and grow as a person.

I don't think I would have been able to graduate had it not been for the emotional support of some of my teachers through what was a very rough couple of years for me. Yes, the guidance counselors help too, but it's so unbelievably important to be able to have open dialogue between teachers and students. It fosters a whole other level of respect that would be completely lost if this were to be enacted.

While boundaries need to exist, students need to be able to confide in teachers. My relationships with my teachers could not be replicated with a counselor I would see once or twice a year. I want my children to be safe, but this is excessive.

As a former Derry township student I know how valuable the relationship with my teachers were in my life! They helped shaped me into who I am today, not just by there teaching, but from their real life stories!

This is what happens when out-of-touch helicopter parents hijack a school board and keep professionals from doing their jobs. I'm so grateful for my teachers whose one-on-one conversations helped me through some of my lowest points and whose insights and experience contributed substantially to my success during and after high school. Shame on you, DTSB, for targeting the very men and women whose kindness and dedication serve as examples of everything a great teacher should be. Don't be surprised when you lose your most valuable resource to districts that appreciate and reward great teachers.

I find this so sad. Without talking to my teachers about my problems, I would be a mess and probably wouldn't make it through the school day. This is also a terrible rule because what if someone is depressed? That person isn't allowed to talk to a teacher they are comfortable with unless it's a counselor. Since we would only be able to talk to a counselor, people either won't talk about their problems at all or the counselors will be busy. If the counselors can't see the person until the next day, it could be too late.

As a Hershey High School alumn, I think it's crucial to have interaction with the staff. They are by far the school's biggest resource and it would be an injustice to limit their contact with students.

This proposal could use some common-sense modifications. It seems way more restrictive than it needs to be.

As an alumni, I believe this is over reaching of the school board. Teachers must be an outlet for students. Mental health amongst teenagers is a growing concern and having a teacher a someone who students can confined in is crucial to maintain a healthy environment for students to grow. School is not only for learning math, reading, etc. but fostering an environment for students to socially learn and having an appropriate relationship with a teacher is crucial to that process. It will also prepare students for college life and developing relations with professors if they intend on going to college.

As a HHS alumni, I know that I barely knew my guidance counselor. I would feel much more comfortable approaching a familiar face than a face that would check in with me a few times a year. If I were redirected to a guidance counselor, I don't know if I would be as comfortable speaking with them.

This is so dumb. Although it is trying to be protective it will do more harm than good. Some people do not feel comfortable talking to a guidence counsilor. If they feel comfortable with a teacher they should be able to talk to them. That could save a childs life from self harm or family harm. Most kids going through things will not go right to the counselor they usually try to talk to their closest teacher first.
