As a friend said, Central Park is big enough. Why does New York need another which will destroy a historic site in the process of it's construction?

My husband and I were there in 2012 with the Titanic memorial cruise and it was so sad to see the state of the pier. Of course it should be preserved its part of titanic history and future generations need to know and learn of the history of the pier.

Why does the United States always destroying so many significant historical sites? Is it because of the greed of real estate developers?

This pier was part of one of the greatest disasters of the 20th Century. It has stood for well over 100years and served as the entry to America for not only the rich and famous but also (along with Ellis Island) many generations of immigrants who have become part of the rich tapestry of American society. How can something so precious be consigned to History!

Quit tearing down history and build it back up. It should be a historical landmark that you CAN'T destroy!

Save all of Pier 54.....It should not be renamed.....How can you rename a piece of History? Also, for what reason? They should leave it alone, restore it and make it part of whatever plan they may have in mind. It wouldn't be in there way.

This piece of the famous Pier 54 which housed many famous ocean liners must be saved. She is a tribute to what was once Pier 54.

A true outrage that more is not being done to preserve such a site.

PLEASE keep the granite facade of Pier 54 part for history. With the steel arch, both go well together and should be saved for future generations to appreciate.

Let's leave a small bit of history left such as the existing granite walls and the Cunard arch. Surely some clever designer could keep these elements as the new Pier 54 is built.
