This pier is a priceless part not only of ocean liner history, but of the history of the fine City of New York, and is forever linked to the stories of such famous liners as Titanic, Lusitania, Carpathia, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and so many other famous Cunarders.

Please preserve this architectural relic for future generations. With connections to both the Titanic and Lusitania disasters, as well as transportation history in general (Pier 54 is the only pier in New York with remnants of the original early 20th century pier shed), Pier 54 above all deserves to survive. Any new development can incorporate the beautiful extant Warren & Wetmore façade, but once it's gone, it's gone forever.

Preserve history. Once it's demolished and built over there'll be nothing left. Would you encourage the demolition of the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt if someone wanted to put a resort or something on the site? Would you encourage the Colosseum in Rome to be destroyed for commercial development? Would you tear down the Sydney Harbour Bridge because mammoth cruise liners can't venture beneath it? Would you knock down the White House to build a Walmart? Of course you wouldn't, so why destroy a feature with a rich historic past?
