This is so very important. Brighton and Hove has the highest rate of breastfeeding precisely because of this support. Please, keep this going. The health benefits are a hundred fold.

Breastfeeding support is so absolutely crucial and myself and hundreds of other women just would not have been successful without it! It would be tragic to let it go!

Without the vital support I received I would not have got past the first week of breastfeeding. I fed my daughter for 7 months.

There is no way I would have had the confidence in my body's ability to nourish my child if it weren't for the invaluable support and home visits I had from Donna in the first few months. Brighton and Hove has the highest breastfeeding rates in the country and research shows time and again that what really helps mothers to reach their breastfeeding goals is support. How can this not be a vital service? I understand that resources are very stretched but breastfeeding is linked with improved health outcomes in a whole range of areas (reducing risk of obesity, allergies, respiratory / chest infections, certain types of cancer etc) which overall surely saves the NHS money? Deleting this post would be a grave mistake.

The UK has some of the lowest breast feeding rates in the world and this is only going to make that worse

Donna's help and support were vital for me. Without her I would have given up breastfeeding within the first two weeks. As it is, I'm still going five months later!

Breastfeeding support is extremely important. The benefits of breastfeeding are huge and make a positive impact on the health of both months and child!! In the long run we would be saving money as we would have a healthier nation. Children are not educated about breastfeeding and with the media pushing formula (milk from another animal which shares no bialogical similarities to ourselves) the ignorance towards breastfeeding is huge!! We need as much help and positive support as possible!

Brighton and Hove city's breast feeding rates would not be as good as they are without Donnas hard work and commitment. Please all sign this petition

I would never have got through the tough time breastfeeding my first born if it had not been for the breast feeding counsellor. This role is essential.

This is such an important service. As a new mum or even if it is not your first child. When you really want to breast feed and are struggling. You are so emotional anyway and tires. You need the professional support to say you are doing it right or try this. Rather then family and peers who could say "give up bottle feeding is easier" or give you wrong advise and make things worse. Especially if you are amongst people who have traditionally bottle fed. Feeling supported by a professional can help your mental health long term.

Donna provides a very empowering service helping those who want to keep breastfeeding to carry on. She supported me in the early days and when my baby was 6 and 9 month as feeding changes, sleep deprivation takes it's toll and you doubt yourself. I was able to feed for 15months. If I had it had this support it would have affected my mental health as it was something I was so keen to do and loved doing. I would have felt like a failure or that I had missed out on something if I was not able to do it. Donna will always listen and support the mother's decision helping those who want to mix, or stop safely without getting mastitis. Her knowledge and caring manner boost confidence and is an invaluable resource. Thank you Donna and good luck xxx
