As a Pleasant Union ES parent, I have grave concerns on how Durant Elementary will provide a valuable education to my children. The school has average standard test scores in the low 60s with a 17 to 1 student/ teacher ratio. Pleasant Union just acquired an increase in the student population as part of last year's realignment and acquisition of students from Lead Mine, Lynn Road, North Ridge and Wakefield. How is the county planning on improving these test scores if they are currently operating with a low student to teacher ratio and are increasing the student inflow into Durant with the current year re-alignment? Are there plans to hire new teachers and increase the number of classrooms within Durant? I imagine the answer to this is "No" which is a bit frustrating. We purchased our home with our children's education being our #1 priority. The PUE alignment to Pine Hollow would require the year round middle school to acquire an additional 100 to 125 students. Additionally, the school is 5.5 miles away from Pleasant Union and allows buses to utilize the roads from east to west which would decrease bus traffic on the highways. This preliminary decision does not appear to reflect any interest on our children’s interest and education. It is my understanding that the Brier Creek area will be re-aligned to the new Pine Hollow middle school. Brier Creek is currently within the Leesville Road Middle School district. This school also has a 17 to 1 student teacher ratio and received an average standard score of 81.46% within 2015. These scores are almost 20% higher than Durant Road. Why not allow our school (Pleasant Union) to be aligned with the new middle allowing Durant Road the resources required to improve their average scores which is a win/ win for the county and the parents? If this is not an option, please consider aligning Pleasant Union students to Leesville Middle.

The traffic pattern for the current students at SCES to get to Durant Rd. from Norwood Rd would cause even more mass congestion at the intersection of Durant and Six Forks which is already not equipted for the traffic that comes through there. It currently takes me 4 mins to get to SCES and 5-6 to get to the new Pine Hollow location. It takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic in the morning to get from Durant Middle back to Old Creedmoor Rd. (I did it for 4 years)

My daughter has a middle school bus ride of 1.5 hr is the morning and 1 hr at night. Due to her having to get on the bus at 6:40am I am driving her to school in the morning and it takes 1 hr. This is a hardship for working parents! Pine Hollow drive for me would be 15 min. Please revise district.

I am "old school" & I still believe that all students are better off attending the schools that are closest to home. Obviously, sending them further away creates a hardship on the entire family unit, not just the student, for a variety of reasons. Let's keep everyone happy & give the parents & students what they were promised by WCPSS.

I have 2 children that attend PUE currently. Both of my children ride bus in the afternoon. Our current middle school options have needed adjustments for years and that is why our taxes had increased. Now we are being told that the new middle school is not where our kids will go???? this is outrageous and unfair. Kids should not be on a bus for over an hour. The location for the new school on Leesville is a much better option for the location that we currently live in. I do not mind paying more in taxes assuming my children will attend a better, more accessible school.

Those of us who live near Pleasant Union really need better middle school options. Being on a bus for over an hour every day is not really a viable option.

As an active parent volunteer, I think it's critical to allow our rising siblings access to a conveniently located school on the same calendar as younger siblings. How will I continue to volunteer and serve our schools when I always have a child at home? It is a hardship to have long bus routes and diminished parent involvement. Our kids need time for homework, play, and family interaction not long commutes and altered schedules which tear our communities and families apart.

It seems clear that the children living in Boulder Creek are best served by being allowed to attend schools closest to their homes. Please reconsider the school assignment and allow Boulder Creek students to attend Pine Hollow.

I live in Boulder Creek off Victory Church Road and I believe it is a big mistake if our children are not included in Pine Hollow. The commute time to Pine Hollow is simple and will cause much less vehicle congestion (cars and busses) for Wake County. If we're not part of Pine Hollow: 1.) Boulder Creek parents and busses will be driving 5 times as far to school, 2.) if my kids miss the bus or the bus doesn't show, I'd be driving them across town to get them to their middle school which will also cause me to be late to work. 3.) My child is often in reading programs and if he has to stay late on those days, it forces me to leave work early to go far out of the way to pick him up.

Once again our families in Hawthorne are made to fight for the opportunity to have our children go to school just a few miles from home so that parents can be involved in our children's education and for more family time. Please consider helping Hawthorne children and families by allowing the neighborhood be zoned for Pine Hollow Middle School.

I have heard that the designated middle school for our children is Durant Road as it stands now. While I am sure that is a fine school it is located approximately 11+ miles away from us....versus approximately 2. Please allow our Hawthorne year round children to attend Pine Hollow MS. It is the right thing to do.

Please reconsider making Pine Hollow the base year-round middle school option for the Chestnut Oaks neighborhood. Would be nice to keep the Bartons Creek community together and keep our children closer to home.

We received a tax increase because of this school. I think it's only fair that our child be allowed to be a part of it. It's closer proximity than the other schools and I would expect a better ranking than our current choices, since the school would be new.
