These kind of barns should be banned from being built it is not good for the environment and the animals if you want to raise animals do it like a normal Farmer would do with a farm and pasture not almost 5,000 animals in a barn that never get to see the outside.

these CAFO's are cruel to animals as well as humans and the environment.... they are in NO comparison to any normal family farm! They should be outlawed!

My family has spent most of their lives living on the land in this very location. My grandparents used to farm the land there and they have retired and enjoyed the golden years there on a piece of the land they saved when they sold the farm. My uncle and his wife have dedicated their lives building a home themselves while working, going to school and successfully raising a family there and this what is their retirement. To live there and enjoy the view. It's amazing. Breathtaking. My mother is buried close to their and I wish for her childhood home to be kept a safe and clean place for the families there now to raise their children and make memories much like the ones she always shared with me.

A CAFO (concentrated animal feeding operation) is going to come into your community or the community of someone you know. We started this petition for Brothersvalley Township in Somerset County, PA due to a Swine CAFO being placed on old Beachdale Hill but this is for EVERYONE!
Know that people who live near CAFOs are often unable to go outdoors, have picnics, hang laundry, or mow the grass. The freedoms they associate with living near the countryside vanish as they become prisoners in their own homes and their property values plummet.
A CAFO is coming Somerset County, PA. USA that will house over 15,000 swine. Speak with your neighbors and friends and bring people together who will be affected by the CAFO both directly and indirectly.
Who will be affected?
Those who live nearest the proposed facilities, as well as landowners next to the fields where the CAFO waste would be applied. (From Garrett to Berlin.)
HEALTH:
Both the very young and the elderly will be affected by CAFO pollution.
People with sensitive immune systems will be directly affected by the CAFOs gases, emissions,and pollution discharges to water, land and air.
Local family farmers will be run out of business. CAFO operators will offer them more money than they may be used to in order to rent their land, but many CAFOs do not practice good stewardship . CAFO operators are notorious for overapplication of waste, causing poor crops in fields, and for irrigating in such large amounts that the fields have to be reseeded again and again. (It becomes apparent soon the field is only for waste disposal and not for growing and harvesting crops. For more information please visit:
