I feel this is ridiculous as these kids use their phones as a calculator instead of their parents paying out for a $200 calculator

To everyone that's signed the petition. While you are allowed to stay anonymous and there's nothing from stopping you from doing that, if one of you want to call me out by name I'd except you not to hide behind a screen, although I already have an idea of who it was. Students shouldn't have to purchase an MP3 player at their expense because music can help many students focus during study sessions, and using your phone to record assignments means that it's all in one place you can access wherever you are and not on a communal IPad. Like other teachers have said to use, they agree that students should be able to photograph notes on the board if they can't write them but want to study them. Talking to one teacher, she said that the teachers WERE NOT approached about the decision and another confirmed that it WASN'T in the news letter prior to lasts week like was stated. Lastly, majority of Senior students DO use their phones as tools for either music, notes, photographing assignments, etc. and most of the culprits are in younger grades. Students in Senior, some of who are adults, should get the responsibility to use their phone and not be treated like children, and they should loose that privilege if they break the rules. All of High School shouldn't be assumed guilty and punished for the actions of a few. Everything that's been stated so far IS truethful and honest, and why should this decision be out of our hands?

Teachers cant take my phone. They didn't buy it so they can change their stupid policy and realise that just because they didn't have phones 'back in the day' that we cant now. We honestly can do what we want with our phones because its our money that we put towards it and its also our item. If you think you will take our phone, you are very wrong so have fun trying to take them. Oh another thing, CHANGE YOUR POLICY. "Oh yeah um.. schools in France are banning them" wow this is Australia. Very different. Cheers love ya'll xxx

I agree with this article and you can't stop me from bringing my phone. I will have it in my pocket, and if I get questioned about it I will say it is something else as there is no way a teacher is able to prove that is a phone. and they don't have any permission to search my pockets. So Teachers I wish you luck because your gonna need it.

well i think you should be allowed to have your phone on you because sometimes people feel safe with it on them and if someone gets lost on an excursion we would be able to call for help

as a grade 1 and a half student struggling with really hard exams right now its really annoying to have my phone, which i use for a lot of work, memorising and taking pictures of notes being banned and me not being allowed to use it, im taking this to the US government

students need phones in case of emergency situations and its stupid to think the school will take phones of students that is technically stealing as the property does not belong to them.

Though I don't have a phone, I think the new policy is lame and that the board should respect the fact that people want there belongings with them through the day, like teachers want our belongings with us. (e.g hat, diary etc.) Ya'll are genius for thinking to do this btw. :)

Dear whoever you are, I think you may be missing some very important points. First, note taking on a phone can be cumbersome, however using a phone to take a photo of a whiteboard with notes on it is incredibly helpful - in fact, many teachers recommend it. Secondly the idea that phones being "safe" in school lockers is ridiculous. I, for one, have seen how fast people can hack into a lock, and it usually takes under 5 minutes, and the locks are also incredibly easy to break. Also, iPads are not a perfect solution for alternatives to record and photograph information. Many times, iPads will not be sufficiently charged, or will be spread thin across the school. Younger classes will book the iPads for simple kahoot games without thought to others, whose assignments may need iPads; students with important data and recordings on the iPads will lose that data to any random fool who decides to delete photos and videos, and the devices are often littered with irritating photos and joke videos. I do not believe that we should take in stride that "the rules are being enforced to better aid our education," as you said, just because this is "a school." You’re just taking on in blind faith that our elders know what's best for us – usually, they do, but I’m seeing some large holes in their arguments. Additionally, I do not believe the opinions of the board were informed at all (I have spoken with a number of teachers and parents, and very few seem to agree with this 'educated decision'.) And I most definitely not believe that you are really appreciating the phones true value. It is an incredibly useful medium for study, providing easy access to school email, allowing for quick, helpful reminders, and has very useful features such as stopwatches, cameras, time-lapse and slow-motion technology. These features are very helpful for science experiments, recordings on field work, etc. Living with this technology has blinded us to it's amazing capabilit
