Firstly, I would like to state that I agree with a couple of points you have made and commend you for taking a stand against something you don’t believe in. Phones are important, however, you’re reasoning (Izak and Kallan) is completely flawed. No, you don’t need phones for music, music may help you study but as Mr Schneider states, you do have the ability to purchase an MP3 player which can cost as little as $20 to listen to music from. Furthermore, using phones to take notes in class is inefficient and plain ridiculous, the school allows senior students to take in laptops to record notes and the school also provides iPads that can easily be used to record/photograph information for assignments, science experiments and artworks. If teachers don’t allow you to make use of the iPads, you are then able to take further actions and inquire on why you are being deprived of the right to use this equipment. Secondly, as the senior grades were informed, the board were not the only people involved in this decision. The school asked both parents and teachers for their opinion and made an educated decision based on their responses. Finally, if we were to be honest, the majority of senior students do not use their phones ‘as a tool in class’. Therefore, if decide to start a petition be truthful. Unless you have specific learning needs that may require a phone then phones are not necessary in the classroom by any of your reasoning. This is a school and many of the students must understand that these rules are being enforced to better aid our education. Please be sensible and understand that this decision is out of our hands.
Kind Regards
