Fairfax County needs to preserve this tract of land and protect it from development. To many people are losing touch with nature. We need to reconnect with our natural environment and encourage families to bring their children to parks to commune with nature. Having local parks that are easily accessible is a major step.

Green space is critical to human health as well as the health of the environment and migrating and resident birds.

If we don't create parks, developers are likely to pave the space over. We need to preserve as much as we can before it's gone.

Park land is important ! Another apartment building or store isn't. Once the land is used, it's gone. Let's use it for something that matters. Something that can be enjoyed for generations. A PARK!

I am all for more parkland! This is important to keep, especially in this very high-density area.

Maintaining some green space among the large amount of development is valuable for water quality, reducing the heat island effect, and giving local residents a restful space.

As a citizen and a candidate for Mt Vernon Supervisor, I absolutely support the creation of a Fairfax County Park on the former Fairchild Property.

I fully support having the Board of Supervisors transfer this property to the Fairfax County Park Authority and to turn this natural resource into a community park that can be enjoyed by anyone.

As of this morning there are 118 online signatures and 277 paper petition signatures making a total of 395 signatures. Later today, Paul Krizek and I will be going door to door in the Spring Bank neighborhood on Dawn Drive to collect more signatures. Tomorrow evening the Spring Bank Community Association will meet candidates for the Board of Supervisor seat in the Mount Vernon District. I will bring the petition up at the meeting to inform the candidates of the number of signatures by the start time of the meeting. Please share and encourage more residents and citizens to sign our petition for this righteous cause. Thanks to everyone so far that has signed. We will keep this petition going until we have enough signatures to convince community leaders that this property must be preserved for purposeful uses as public parkland and open space.

I am in full support of saving as much undeveloped land as possible in Fairfax County.
I strongly urge county officials to support the action requested in this petition.
I further ask the county to consider the same action for the beautifully treed, undeveloped 33 acre North Hill property located at RT. 1 and Lockheed Boulevard. The North Hill land is currently scheduled for development. With so little undeveloped land remaining in the county I consider the destruction of this property for housing to be unnecessary, unfortunate and not in keeping with the statement that "Fairfax County has embarked on environmental initiatives to preserve forested areas to help improve air quality and to protect, restore and enhance our water quality" .
Thank you for your consideration.

This area needs a park. There is so much development happening on Route 1 right now, this needs to happen as well!

Seriously? Do we have to take all the open, natural spaces for ourselves? Go find somewhere else to develop that is already built upon and neglected. Preserve what little is left for green spaces, other species and our future.

For all the reasons listed in the petition--woodlands and open space are disappearing; the land is historically significant; the land was donated for parkland; forested areas help improve air and water quality--this property should be preserved as a county park.
