We, the undersigned, who are members of the communities of the city of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and the county of Berkeley, West Virginia, and/or who are friends of the libraries located within those places, do hereby petition the library Board of Commissioners that David Porterfield, the library’s interim director, be hired to serve as Director of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Libraries (MBCPL). David has been an excellent leader over the past four months, and we deeply appreciate his positive overtures toward the community and his wise management of our library system. We believe that the trust David has been building with the community is vital for the library’s funding situation to improve in the near future. We ask that the board cease its director search immediately and make David Porterfield the permanent director of the MBCPL.
