Save General Practice Services in Ireland

I am a GP trainee and have started looking abroad upon graduation

I do not believe that a new contract can be signed while the FEMPI cuts are in place. It forces doctors to negotiate their fees from a disadvantage. I believe FEMPI should be fully restored prior to any further negotiations on the contract.

Please please address the urgent need to allow ordinary people to see a GP without having to consider the cost

We will soon see many GPs going exclusively private making the situation even worse. Urgent reversal government decade long GP policy of increased work for less money is needed. We have been drifting towardsthe waterfall for years and now the current pulling us over the edge is very strong.

I have worked both in the NHS and the HSE as a GP over the last 22 years. I set up a practice in 2007 and only got a GMS no in 2010.I built up my list to @900 but resigned in 2016 due to moving into a PCC ..builder went into recivership,I was bullied by HSE, Venture capitalists and my partner(who emigrated).I am now in the process of applying for a new GMS list but really will not rush into it until i know about the FEMPI cuts and what more the government are planning to load onto GP's.The government need to listen and look after GP's in this country.

As a Practice Nurse working in General Practice I fully support my GP colleagues and urge Minister Simon Harris to start addressing this urgent matter.

With out a well funded robust primary care service our acute services will continue to suffer.

Thanks to Government Policy of the last 10 years to emasculate General Practice, the results of that strategy are now being witnessed. Hospital Medicine has sadly declined with many Consultant posts vacant. General Practice is rapidly following suit. Within 5 years in Ireland, General Practice as we know it today will cease to exist. It will be a Corporate based business model, run by foreign Doctors. Irish Doctors will have emigrated or retired. You have been warned time and time again, and you did not listen. General Practice is dying on it's feet. It will be a sad day for Ireland when her GP's are lost. To be replaced by what..............the HSE ???

Time to reverse FEMPI cuts unconditionally Pre new GMScontract negotiation and restore good will with it ..

People are waiting up to two weeks to get GP appointments. The service needs to be made more appealing for newly qualified GPS, and also the administration involved in medical practice makes it an unappealing prospect for young GPS to set up clinics.

40% pay cut is crazy, under 6 contract is crazy, becoming a GP in Ireland is (you guessed it) ....crazy !

The Taoiseach, Minister for Health & Government have the power to save Irish General Practice, IF THEY WANT TO! Otherwise, the foundation stone of our nation's health service will crumble.

FEMPI reversal or mass GMS resignation from all GPs

I am delighted to support this action despite the fact that I refused to be bullied into signing up to the U6 contract. Furthermore to protect my business I resigned from the GMS on 1st April 2017. I firmly believe that this Government have no intention of negotiating a new Contract any time soon if at all. I love my job as a GP and I continue to practice medicine in a private capacity only. It saddens me greatly that we have allowed the current Government to successfully use our businesses as a vote getting exercise. I fear for the future of General Practice and all the wonderful highly skilled younger GP’s who feel they have no option but to emigrate. We need to stop the rot ASAP.
