Petition to the Ashland school board
In that we all were hit with a huge school property tax increase this last December, some up to 37%. In that the Ashland School District lost 62 students last year, with projections to continue to lose more students over the next 10 years, resulting in less state aid and higher school property taxes. We demand that the Ashland School Board scale back the upcoming school building projects, eliminating the $12,900,000.00 field house.The Elementary School bid due 2/8/2017, the Middle School bid due 2/28/2017, the High School/Field House bid due 3/14/2017. The School Board can defer the bids, reject the bids or down scale them with an addendum prior to the bid due date. Must live in the Ashland school district to sign.

My family is hurting from these tax hikes and I know many of you are feeling the exact same pinch. We are about to hit two hundred fifty signatures which will force the board to acknowledge our frustration before the upcoming bid deadlines. Please send this link to your neighbors so we can show them that our community cannot afford this massive debt.

My neighbors keep telling me they cannot afford another tax hike while our enrollment numbers drop. We are nearing a hundred signatures so please blast this out on your neighborhood pages before the board meeting begins.

All in for supporting our children and keeping teachers, administration and refurbishing facilities. Fiscally irresponsible to tack on a field house at this time
The field house is way overpriced for the Ashland Area and not needed. Our population has declined 5.1% since 2000, so the tax base is shrinking and continues to decline. Do the right thing and place this project on a permanent hold.
Support required safety/security infrastructure upgrades to the schools...DO NOT support building a Field House. Can't even fill the current gymnasium for sporting events.
If our school district can't afford it, we don't need it. More than half of the kids within the school district are already at or beneath poverty level, so why make what is already hard for many people, even harder. This is not a hardship the people of this community can afford.
School board needs to reconsider the field house. I am pro-education. I am pro-teacher. I am pro-great facilities for our kids. I am against a poorly thought out and budgeted construction plan and a surprise 37% tax increase before construction has started.
I feel that under the current economic situation it would be irresponsible for the school board to build this costly field house.

This field house is far beyond what the fine people of Ashland and those in the school district can afford. This hike in taxes is unsustainable, and when will it stop? And have we thought of the maintenance and heat of this building? It's a great thought for more prosperous times... now is not the time.
