Complex PTSD as a dx needed in DSM so that more people can get treatment covered by insurance.

I work mostly with people who meet criteria for this diagnosis. Many are parents and poor. This would be a step in the right way to help prevent the intergenerational transmission of trauma, that has such a devastating effect on society.

Please get this out there, so few professionals seem aware of this.

Most of my therapy patients do not have a single trauma . Due to the neurological and brain changes from relational trauma, therapy is a lengthy process. With DSM support, and a way to code this, therapists will be able to get more research on this issue, and also develop more efficient and compassionate ways to treat people with this kind of experience. It also might do away with some Personality Disordered labels that are shaming and stigmatizing for patients who are in reality more appropriately labelled as having CPTSD.

This is an important step in getting this approved, that is to be part of the movement to demand inclusion for something we treat and have clearly identified. It is much like and reminds me of the journey that PTSD had to be recognized as a real disorder. Shameful that we are doing this to ourselves.

The CPTSD diagnosis offers etiological understanding and guidance for treatment, even as it depathologizes complex clients. It's vitally necessary.

Including the Complex PTSD diagnosis in the DSM-5 will be a crucial step toward improving treatment for multiply traumatized individuals.

As a traumatologist, I fully support that the diagnosis of Complex PTSD should be included in the DMM

Overdue. The ICD-11 is to be commended. Now I can give clients the correct diagnosis.

The failure to include this diagnosis is a triumph of politics over science, and delegitimizes the DAM in the eyes of everyone who works with complex developmental trauma.

I am an italian psychotraumatologist and I hope APA will include officially the diagnosis of complex-PTSD in their next edition of DSM: it would be a dramatic improvement in the clinical work.

CPTSD has made life so difficult; I can’t think of one major aspect of my existence that it hasn’t tainted. After so many decades of struggling, I’m so tired and despondent anymore. The world needs to understand the far-reaching effects of child abuse. Children need to be better protected to prevent CPTSD from developing in the first place, and adult survivors of childhood abuse need much more societal support (and hope for some kind of healing)

As a lifetime sufferer of C-PTSD, I know that C-PTSD is a lot different than PTSD, and treatment for C-PTSD is very long term and NOT a cure..! C-PTSD sufferers suffer for life...! We need new and C-PTSD specific treatment methods from specially trained Psychologists and Psychiatrists, and we need Doctors and Governments to be educated about C-PTSD and informed of our needs.!
