To quote a previous comment which expresses exactly what I want to say: "C-PTSD is not the same thing as PTSD, and the healing process is much more complex. It is VITAL the APA acknowledges and understands this. PLEASE include this in the DSM." I lost YEARS in non-trauma-informed treatment either being treated as if cptsd were ptsd, or worse as if what I had was just a bunch of symptoms like depression, anxiety, eating disorder without any all-encompassing diagnosis. Because to professionals well-versed in ptsd what I have doesn't fit that either.

It’s different to PTSD and it’s REAL.

I lost at least two decades of adult life navigating systems of ‘care’ that lacked info about relational and developmental traumas. CPTSD as a dx would have opened so many doors much earlier than finally finding a book in the library I can take to a professional to try and get adequate help.

As a social worker and a relational trauma survivor, CPTSD must be included. It directs attention to us as survivors. It helps validate the specific struggles we collectively experience into a term, defined with psychology to frame our injury (CPTSD), inflicted upon each of us by bad people, to others. It will directly & indirectly reduce the stigma and bias we face from society's norms and then internalize upon ourselves. The end result is absence of CPTSD harms and negatively impacts each person who lives with the symptoms of this debilitating chronic AND constant psychological injury. By signing this petition, I sign my name to honor all those who succumbed because the resources and systems made it far too hard to conduct their activities of daily living. Once despair comes in from those impairments sets in, the battle out of the FOG called despair, becomes profoundly harder. Help, instead of hurt, please.

PLEASE get Complex PTSD/Trauma listed as an “official” diagnosis so we can get the help we need to heal. Thank you.

Please, please include CPTSD! There are so many who suffer with it and need insurance to cover treatment.

This is a badly needed change which will result in the correct treatment for many thousands of suffering individuals.

PTSD is a debilitating condition which affects every area of a person's life

As both a therapist and a complex trauma survivor, the inclusion of C-PTSD in the next DSM is imperative in order to give complete and accurate service to relational trauma survivors. I have already made it known to many EMDR trauma therapists on the EMDR ListServe how clients have not only been harmed by lack of correct diagnosis and subsequent treatment, but have also quit treatment for fear of adding more trauma to their already traumatized lives. Please, do the right thing.
