The university has no place shoving this location down everyone's throat and particularly without a master plan. A survey taken by channel 21 over six weeks when this was first announced and the land purchased without any input basically showed OVER WHELMINGLY that people in Central Oregon were against this site and the way it was handled. Even the mediator (attorney) hired by the City recognized the sneaky, underhanded way this was all handled. Everything the university wanted (infrastructure with roads, medical facilities, fast food restaurants/pubs, security with the police dept. and adequate land to expand is NOT here on the crowded West side streets. In addition, the limited size for a university, let alone, toxic sites it wants to expand on at tax payers expense, is completely insane. Stop the madness now...a well respected commercial appraiser also looked into the issues that will negatively affect those immediate surrounding residential areas of the imposed site location, including university studies, that backed up his huge concerns with this terrible decision...sent to the Council, City Mgr., Planning, etc it certainly was correct in the assessment.

I support the establishment of a 4 year campus in Bend. The current location puts unacceptable burdens on the existing infrastructure . There is very limited potential for the expansion of the campus and supporting business and research facilities.

I support the creation of an OSU campus in Bend, but the current location is woefully inadequate for any future expansion.

No parents would knowingly put their college age students on a pumice mine and next to a landfill.

It's a sad day when you stop and realize, after reading a good share of the available materials, that the OSU-Cascades officials making these decisions (i.e. taking title of the 10.44-acre site) are blind, biased, narrow-minded, and disingenuous. They have no thorough plan for the ENTIRE acreage, they have failed to tell the public their vision of a "master plan" for the 56 acres and they keep robbing taxpayers -- over $500,000 so far--just to do "evaluations" of the pumice mine. Yes, it is truly sad these are the kind of public officials that show no conscience when it comes to such an important decision about the future of Bend.
University YES, Westside NO.

Fully support a 4-year OSU campus in Bend, but strongly oppose the current westside location due to transportation and housing constraints that OSU will get taxpayers, rather than OSU, to pay for.

Please reconsider the west side of Bend and place the campus at Juniper Ridge. It's such a better location for a 4 year school to grow.

Just Say NO to OSU on the Westside...it is a bad choice and doesn't make sense. I haven't spoken to one person in the Community who believes it is a good idea!! Everyone is for a 4 year College just not on the Westside!!

I am in favor of the University, but not in the chosen location. It is simply not adequate in size, nor is the ground beneath it firm. Lots more open ground on the East side of the City, with less traffic woes.

Current location is just dumb for Bend. An east side location would stimulate growth and economic development in an area where such is needed.

Stop over loading the west location. Go east, be smart with the formation of a new college village.

I'm for an OSU campus...
but feel the best location would be between Bend and Redmond . Logic would dictate that if the airport being between these two cities best serves the area, that logic would also apply to the campus. Let's make the campus convenient to Prineville, Madras, Redmond, Bend and all of central Oregon.

This site will not be adequate for future growth. How do you put 5000 students on a postage stamp? OSU (Oregon taxpayers) will eventually need to purchase the commercial property surrounding the landfill. That property will be priced at top real estate value. The only parties that will benefit are the property owner along Chandler, Century Dr., Yates, and Simpson. The history of facilities built in, and around pumice pits in Central Oregon has proven to be a costly endeavor (mistake) Summit HS athletic complex was a perfect example.
This decision reeks of backroom politics at it's best. The site selection is based upon the financial benefits of a few privileged parties. The OSU Cascades administration has proven to be a poor financial steward for the people of Oregon.

This is an agenda that is failed on so many levels. It is clearly not in the best interest of the local community, there is inadequate parking planned (300 spaces for 5000 students!), no room for student housing (in an area of town with a housing shortage) and no plan for traffic abatement. There are a number of locations that are better for the community, university and students.

Let's put a 4 year college where there is housing and parking like on the east side! let's make a new area not cram more into an already over crowded area, it's common sense.
