This is a wonderful opportunity to make another part of Bend more attractive. Make osu campus closer to airport and Redmond and prineville etc. more businesses will be motivated to locate there. Students near more affordable housing. Then traffic won't increase as much in the west side, and it will be easier for everyone to get to the lakes and trails and mountains

Get the BLM or USFS to give the school 600 to 800 acres. My kid is in the 1st freshman class.

The OSU university will be a welcomed addition to our community but NOT ON THE WESTSIDE! Think of the students coming from other areas in Central Oregon, the housing and parking needs, the expansion needs to name a few. Build it and they will come.

I'm not at all opposed to having a four year campus in Bend.. it's very selfish for fellow residents to want to "hoard" Mt.Bachelor, etc. However, OSU has not thought through housing and infrastructure needed for students and transportation to/from campus in an already crowded town. Please reconsider Juniper Ridge!

Please move the campus to the East side of town. That area needs some love anyway.

It is ridiculous to have OSU go in a neighborhood that is already full. Why not use the areas out east that started to develop before the recession?

OSU has the opportunity to build a campus accessible to more Central Oregonians than one tucked deep on the Westside. Locating closer to Hwy 97 and in areas of town with lower rental costs will support access to education and ease traffic because students will be able to afford to live close to school. Many major universities started on the outskirts of town, and developed vibrant communities for students. The Westside is already stressed without adding 5,000 more students!

Proposed site not adequate now nor in the future.

There is something rotten in Denmark when you look at the proposed site and the expansion plan!

I agree that the siting of the Bend area campus is wrong at the present location and it's time to STOP all of the residential construction, too. Put the new comers out in the desert. thanks, Ken

no OSU on the West Side

The current proposed location is not a viable location for the future of a 4 year university. It needs an area where they can grow and have a stadium, performing arts and gym building for basketball and fields for other sports. Adequate parking for students with cars and not expecting them to walk or ride bikes.

We have been run over by a coalition of moneyed bourgeoisie land owners, cronyism, and indifferent college leadership..

OSU-Cascades needs to tell us WHY the 10-acre site was chosen, and who stand$ to benefit.

Putting the campus in the westside location will limit short-term economic development and, by limiting size in the future, long-term economic development as well.

I am entirely FOR the University, I feel bringing a four-year university to Bend is important to cultural and economic growth. However, the location is ridiculous, short-sighted and though I am still relatively new to Bend, I understand that "something is rotten in Denmark" pertaining to this entire scenario!

Placing the OSU campus in the proposed location is a shortsighted choice that I believe will prove in the long run to have been a grave mistake. 1. Expanding the campus beyond the initial 10 acres will require remediation of sub-standard land at potentially huge cost, with no guarantee of long term soil stability. The athletic field at Cascade Middle School collapsed because of having been built over similar substandard soil and had to be completely replaced. The cost to replace an athletic field would pale in comparison with rebuilding or structurally repairing campus buildings. Did nobody make you aware of this history? 2. Once the mistake has been made (of choosing the wrong location) it can not be undone, no matter whether university officials generations from now smack their foreheads at the inadequacy of the campus for their needs. 3. The transportation and housing inadequacies have been thoroughly discussed, and I will not reiterate them. 4. An eastside location would give room for the OSU campus to evolve in ways none of us now can predict, such possibilities as new buildings to house new Schools, technology or science centers, a university-class library, athletic fields... Why restrict the potential of OSU-Cascades to take advantage of whatever opportunities the future might hold for it to become a significant, well-respected, perhaps renowned university? 5. An eastside location also gives room for a U-District to develop, with businesses and services that will benefit the students, faculty and local residents, and boost the value of the eastside. 6. An eastside location also has room for construction of nearby affordable student housing as well as new neighborhoods of more upscale housing for faculty and administration, something the westside location prohibits by virtue of having been almost completely built-out. 7. The relative openness of Bend's eastside will make it much easier to manage the additional traffic the campus will bring, proximity to US 97

The chosen site is already too heavily populated and a campus here will make living near by a nightmare.

All for a university coming to Central Oregon, just not at the site they chose. There is no affordable housing for the students anywhere near the location, as well as no road infrastructure to support it.
