Petition to Save Volcani Center

To quote a friend: "the consequences of such a move would paralyze the Volcani Institute's research and undermine its standing as one of the leading agricultural research centers. " I concur!!

I trust scientists' option over politicians'.

An internationally recognized institution that needs to stay in the present location to be most effective.

The work at the Volcani Center is one of the world's premier research centers for cutting edge agricultural advancement. The combination of natural and intellectual resources that make it effective is very difficult to create. I fear that moving the center will ruin what makes the center great.

I am impressed by the work of Volcani Center.

Having worked with the BARD group for several years and knowing the high level of research conducted at the Volcani Center, I support the petition to enhance the current location rather than open a new research location in a remote area of the country.

Volcani Center has long supported research of major importance for arid land agriculture. The Center should remain centrally located to stay connected to what is going on throughout the country and to inspire the next generation of leaders in food production.

The Volcani Center is a very well established center of applied research with very good international reputation due to its hight quality studies. Hopefully, the announced plans are reconsidered and the Volcani Center can continue its work with its highly motivated scientists and students at the current, well established site.

Excellent Research Center; the working 'atmosphere' should remain as it is now

Surely, instead of moving a well-established research center, it makes logistical sense to put something new in the proposed location?

Israel (and particularly Volcani Center) is a leader in water conservation and use in Ag. This position and the outcomes of the work which benefit the whole world is jeopardized by the proposed moves. I strongly urge reconsideration and continued support of the Center in its current and future missions to support sustainable agriculture.

It would be very destructive for hte continued impact of the Volcani Center to move it from its central location that enables it to serve the country a a whole and to attract the best talent.

I have collaborated with scientist from Volcano Center in European projects and I noticed that a significant part of their success is due to the close collaboration with people working in agriculture. Let them stay in the middle of the agricultural part of Israel in order to be able to use the existing infrastructure and the relationship they built with agronomists.

I have established successful collaborations with scientists at the Volcani Centre and hope to develop stronger collaborations in the future, including participation in a proposed collaborative research and training experience program funded through the Canadian research agency NSERC. This plan to move the center imperils our plans to train future plant scientists.

Over the years, I have collaborated with many plant virologists at the Volcano Center as well as visited the Center several times in Bet Dagan. The facilities, location as well as its proximity to Tel Aviv and Rehovot, home of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem-Rehovot campus, makes it ideal for international collaboration with many scientists world-wide. We argue the authorities to reconsider the decision to relocate the Volcano Center from the center of the country to a development area in the northern part of Israel which may lead to a deleterious effect on the center in many ways.

This is an important institution serving to address food security in the most productive part of Israel. Locating it in an area of less relevant agriculture makes no sense.

I have been collaborating with Volcani centre, especially in postharvest science of fresh produce and also following their work since many years. They are excellent researchers in a well settled research institute. Moving it to another location will demotivate the researchers and certainly affect their performance. Therefore, I am against the move and support the petition.

I and several colleague and our students have had a very beneficial and highly productive collaborations with researchers at Volcani Center. These collaborations resulted in technologies that are appropriate to certain farming situations under water- limited agriculture as well as training of postgraduate students who have gone ahead in their studies to become well qualified research scientists as a result of the training received from Volcani Center. Please do not relocate or close down the center.

The Volcani Center should be held in the current location to keep its excellence a service to the whole israelian community.
