Petition to Save Volcani Center

The current location encourages collaboration with the Hebrew University Faculty of Agriculture, and collaboration fuels scientific progress.

The current location of the Volcani center promotes collaboration between multiple institutions. Therefore, I strongly encourage that the center stays in the current location.

The Volcani center is at its best location now. I have visited as a BARD collaborator and appreciated its staff and their efficiency at current location. Please do not move it. Thanks!

The volcanic center at the present location is ideal and helping to do excellent research in agriculture which is vital to the state of Israel. Any changes to its location can disrupt the good work it is doing,

I have worked with Israeli scientists in plant biology and agricultural research for decades. I was a BARD Fellow in the years 1998 to 2000. I cherished my time at Volcani and greatly appreciated its proximity to both the Ag Campus of Hebrew University and the wonderful Weismann Institute. It would be very harmful to the mission of the Volcani Center, critical to the world's well being, to disrupt it and move it to a distant site.

Disruption of the current locations of the Volcani Center and other research institution will greatly hinder our College's relationships with current and future scientist in Israel and collaborative funding between US and Israel. Please do not make these unnecessary changes.

It is critically important to sustain, without disruption, an institution that has generated an extraordinarily high return to society.

It appears the main motivation for this move has nothing to do with improving agriculture, but instead with increased space for housing at the Volcani Center's current location. Very sad. I urge Israel's leaders to reconsider this move.

Food security is and will increase as a global priority. Investments in premier centers of agricultural research like Volcani should not only be secured but increased dramatically over the next generation. They will be key to the development of future agricultural systems that feed the world. The Volcani Center should remain where it is and see increased investment.

VOLCANI is very important research center of the world.. There is my home.. I learned science in there.. Do not close VOLCANI ..it s a fenomen..

It will be important for the Volcani center to stay its current location, which allow its scientists work closely with scientists at Hebrew University, the Weizmann Institute, Bar Ilan and Tel Aviv Universities.

I have visited Israel many times and have greatly valued my interactions with the scientists at the Volcani Center. Always on these visits we have conveniently also interacted with scientists at the HUJI and the Weizmann Institute. The synergy I have observed between the 3 institutions is impressive and should not be lost; I believe that synergy has allowed the Volcani to recruit the top scientists that it currently has . I have made visits regarding subtropical fruit crops and have always appreciated the close proximity of the research center to both north and south research sites. Relocation of the Center to the north is strategically not a good option since it will ultimately provide insufficient support to the southern part of the country. I urge you to reconsider and keep the Volcani Center in its current location which optimizes proximity to Israel's agriculture and interaction with other premier research institutions.

We need more than ever continuing operation of research centers like Volcani Center to carry out research to promote and develop sustainable agriculture practices to ensure food safety while respecting and protecting our water quality, soil resources and ecosystem. I support the petition "to reject the proposed move and evisceration of the Volcani Center".

I have been lucky enough to collaborate with researchers of the Institute Aquaculture Genomics, where people have a vision for sound science combined with real life applications. I think that the Volcani centre can offer great services in the dynamically emerging research paradigm of interdisciplinarity and cross-domain research interactions and synthesis to address the huge agro-ecosystem challendges of today and tomorrow

The move could adversely affect the institute

Relocating the Volcani Center is meritless, and will seriously and adversely affect Israeli agriculture and US-Israel cooperation in agricultural research.

I believe moving Volcani Center to the North would be a detrimental mistake.The close proximity of Volcani, Faculta and Weizmann in Rehovot and Tel-Aviv enhances the unique science and synergism of these institutions. Volcani is a world-known flagship for innovation and scientific breakthrough. The convenient distance of Volcani to both the Faculta and Weizmann provides a large number of students immediate access to this this leading agriculture research center and the opportunity to participate in improving agricultural practices. Not only does it allow Vocani’s faculty, postdocs and researchers to interact on a daily basis with nearby Institutions,( (e.g., seminars, classes, data analyses, etc) , it encourages valuable cooperation between scientists. Furthermore, this close proximity plays a pivotal role in improving crops, promoting innovation, and enhancing the view of Israel as the world’s leader in agriculture. Finally as a scientist living abroad, who returns for short visits to meet with other Israeli scientists, moving the Volcani to the far North will prevent me from such interaction – I am sure this is a shared sentiment. It is, therefore, crucial that this physical distance which facilitates a unique relationship of Volcani to the other aforementioned institutes be maintained.

I heard this disturbing news and this is a bad move.
